Comments: A long, wide piece of point ground lace, looks in very good condition. Seller says ‘Possibly English Bucks Point’. Note the consistent use of half stitch in the motifs. To me, that says it’s not Bucks, but perhaps Tønder. When dealing with a piece like this you have to look for signs – Bucks mesh on a 50-70 degree angle (most other point grounds are around 45 degrees). Cut gimps crossing on the side of the piece consistent with the heading to the left when working. But it’s the use of half stitch that bothers me the most.
A remarkable piece.

Comments: Nice set of Alençon lappets, later 18th century. By this time Alençon design was quite minimalistic. It is very rare to find lappets of this type in such good condition – the reseau suffers badly over the years.

Comments: A Liebig advertising card showing lacemakers. Normally these were produced in sets of 6 – the standard set shows lacemakers from different countries and is dated 1912. This one is a loner, I haven’t been able to find others in a coherent set, and don’t know the date. But I assume it is around the same time. A rare card, and looks in excellent condition.
