Comments: This piece has several condition issues, but I think it is quite interesting. A Belgian Point de Gaze type, no raised work.  The work itself is fairly plain, no interesting fillings. Instead it relies on a closely packed design with a very narrow repeat, and with NO mesh ground (makes it almost look like Duchesse). Motifs are held together with some kind of spiderweb ring – can’t tell exactly what it is from the photo.  Belgian needlelace continues to surprise me with pieces like this.

Comments: Yet another Point de Gaze butterfly, in good condition. We’ve had quite a run on these lately.  Back in 1978 I knew one of the last Belgian lacemakers formally trained in Point de Gaze who made these for $5.00 each (see photo of Mme Thienpondt next to the Ebay butterfly taken during my visit). She passed away in 1979.

Comments: One might think that for the price they are asking the seller would put up more photos. Listing states it was purchased ~80 years ago in a store in Florence, and that it has a grey color (could just be age). It is a good example of figural Northern Italian bobbinlace that one often sees in the Cantú area.  Figures seem to be mostly birds, and maybe the heraldic split-tail mermaid. Looks in very good condition.  Note seller has zero feedback.
