http://tinyurl.com/449wnfj ANTIQUE LACE-LOVELY SILK MALTESE LACE SHAWL
Size: ~74″-75″ long, 25″ at widest part
Starting price: $295.00
Auction ends: Apr 24, 2011 04:58:57 PDT
Offered by: Maria Niforis, Ebay seller mithya, London-New York, United States
Comments: This ‘shawl’ is draped over a manikin, but it looks like a mantilla with a large oval center and attached lappet ends that were so popular in the 19th century. A good example, with a typical Maltese construction of a center part surrounded by a separately made border. The center part seems to be made up of squares containing a circular motif, which seems cut where the pattern comes to the edge. But it could have been woven that way. Condition looks excellent.

   Sold for $295.00, 1 bidder.

Comments: Good Maltese border, bold simple design. Very good condition, I can’t see any damage in the photos.

   Sold for $260.00, 2 bidders.

Size: 5″ x 195″
Starting price: $95.00
Auction ends: Apr 24, 2011 05:20:37 PDT
Offered by: Maria Niforis, Ebay seller mithya, London-New York, United States
Comments: I looked through two good references, the Lace Dealer’s Pattern Book, and Hannover’s Tønderske Kniplinger (which shows point ground examples from many countries) to try and convince myself that this is Bucks, not Lille or Tønder. The scalloped large eye edge is can be found in all three, mid 19th century. Bucks doesn’t go much in for large sprigs in the ground, and the little cartouches are unusual. But the mesh doesn’t really look 45 degrees, so I think I’ll endorse the Bucks attribution.  Very interesting piece.

   Sold for $99.99, 2 bidders.

Size: ~31.5″ X 5-1/2″
Starting price: $125.00
Auction ends: Apr 24, 2011 06:45:31 PDT
Offered by: Maria Niforis, Ebay seller mithya, London-New York, United States
Comments: Good Milanese design, heavier linen thread would indicate Italian. The integrated header and footer are also a good sign. Bold design, basically good condition.

   Sold for $222.50, 4 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/3mp3dqe Klöppelsack mit Klöppelständer um 1910
Size: stand, 24 cm x 27 cm x 78 cm. Pillow 22 cm long, 16 cm diameter.
Starting price: 1.00 EUR
Auction ends: Apr 24, 2011 13:08:35 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller antikliga, Lauter, Germany
Comments: Good solid stand, I think the date is accurate. Pillow measurements seem small. Stand looks adjustable in height but I’m not sure how it is done. Wood grain is nice and well aligned in all the pieces. A few dings in the finish, but overall good.

Sold for 34.20 EUR, 6 bidders.

Size: none given
Starting price: $200.00
Auction ends: Apr 24, 2011 16:46:17 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller nowamommyx2, Bergen County, NJ, United States
Comments: Pretty standard Duchesse fan, mother of pearl guard sticks. Does have the original box, no retailer’s lable that I can see.  I don’t see any damage, maybe a spot or two, but overall good. Unfortunately there aren’t good closeups.

   Did not sell.

http://tinyurl.com/3awtu9p ANTIQUE LACE- CIRCA 1800’s, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE LACE
Size: 2.5″ x 66″, joined in a circle
Starting price: $45.00
Auction ends: Apr 25, 2011 05:03:23 PDT
Offered by: Maria Niforis, Ebay seller mithya, London-New York, United States
Comments: Looking at the same references cited in the Bucks example above. I think this is a 1st half 19th century Lille piece. Clothwork is a bit too dense for Bucks, and design more naturalistic. Good condition, seller cites a few small openings.

   Sold for $45.00, 1 bidder.

Auction ends: Apr 25, 2011 12:19:41 PDT
Offered by: Maria Niforis, Ebay seller mithya, London-New York, United States
Comments: Mechlin hunter with deer border. Very straight edge to the lace. Nice monogram with a crown, seller says there is a royal provenance, but gives no details. Overall excellent condition.

   Sold for $597.99, 4 bidders.

Starting price: $45.00 with reserve
Auction ends: Apr 25, 2011 17:11:25 PDT
Offered by: Maria Niforis, Ebay seller mithya, London-New York, United States
Comments: Round hole Valenciennes border. This is one of my favorite laces. 3rd quarter 18th c.  Lovely line-drawing design. Condition looks good, although the top edge might be a bit rough in places. Hard to tell.

$45.00, reserve not met, 1 bidder.

http://tinyurl.com/3c6osr6 ANTIQUE LACE LOVELY HANDMADE MECHLIN LACE C 1840 UNUSED
Size: 1-3/4″ x 154″
Starting price: $49.99 with reserve
Auction ends: Apr 25, 2011 18:35:32 PDT
Offered by: Paivi Roberts, Ebay seller greatlace, Paris – Palm Beach, United States
Comments: Very long border of mid 19th century Mechlin. Not quite as complex as 18th century counterpart, but a definite throwback in design. The thread does look cotton. Looks in great shape, maybe just a few spots.

   Sold for $275.00, 3 bidders.
