Size: 5″ x 151″
Starting Price: $95.00
Auction ends: Jan 16, 2012 13:14:05 PST
Seller: Ebay seller sirjle, PARIS, France
Comments: A border of Brussels bobbinlace application on machine net. Some simple needlelace fillings. A surprising amount of variation in the repeats. It has a light, open design, and is in very good condition. I can’t see any problems from the photos. Unusual to be in such good condition for this long a piece.  This seller has a lot of this kind of material posted, click the ‘See other items’ on the posting.

Size: 13.8″ square
Starting Price: $55.00
Auction ends: Jan 16, 2012 13:16:22 PST
Seller: Ebay seller sirjle, PARIS, France
Comments: An enterprising person could probably put any center you wanted into this piece.  I wonder what the story is with the small circular hole. The bobbinlace is quite good, and the overall design effective. Seller cites one storage stain, and I don’t see any condition issues with the lace itself.

  Sold for $57.00, 2 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/6vkarsa 19thc Large Brussels Duchesse Lace 69″x10″ Dentelle Bruxelles 1,75m x 26cm
Size: 10″ x 69″
Starting Price: $85.00
Auction ends: Jan 16, 2012 13:18:14 PST
Seller: Ebay seller sirjle, PARIS, France
Comments: A very collectible width and length on this piece. When a piece like this has the bit of clothwork where the brides come together, that’s a good sign of Bruges work. The design is bold and well executed, with some nice raised work. Condition looks very good, I can’t spot any problems from the photos.

   Sold for $155.50, 4 bidders.

Size: 28″ x 87:
Starting Price: $145.00
Auction ends: Jan 16, 2012 13:20:55 PST
Seller: Ebay seller sirjle, PARIS, France
Comments: I don’t do as much review as I probably should of the embroidered net pieces, and I’ll work on improving that. This one has a good ‘Blonde de Caen’ look, with with a well executed design extending all around the border. Seller cites a few small holes and stains, minor.

   Sold for $300.00, 2 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/7mlnget HAND MADE FLORAL POINT DE GAZE LACE RUFFLE COLLAR
Size: 35″ neckline, 6″ wide
Starting Price: $9.99 with reserve
Auction ends: Jan 16, 2012 18:31:03 PST
Seller: Ebay seller jamiexmas*, Southbridge, Massachusetts, United States
Comments: A Point de Gaze bertha collar. Raised petal roses, note the little windows in the petals.  Some extensive ring fillings in motifs along the outer edge. Somehow the design looks a little big for the piece. There are some small holes in the net, and seller cites overall yellowing.

Sold for $137.50, 8 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/79hqjh5 Antique Brussels Lace Carved Mother of Pearl Fan w/ Carved Box
Size: 15″ wide open, 8″ tall.
Starting Price: $249.99
Auction ends: Jan 16, 2012 19:30:08 PST
Seller: Ebay seller drgrid, Saint Charles, Missouri, United States
Comments: A Brussels Duchesse fan with Mother of Pearl sticks, carved and gilt. Comes with a carved box. It’s pretty small. The lace is standard Duchesse with one Point de Gaze insert, can’t tell if the rose petals are raised. The tassel looks out of proportion, maybe a replacement? Not sure. Lace is in good condition, with overall discoloration.

Size: not given
Starting Price: $45.00 with reserve
Auction ends: Jan 17, 2012 06:07:34 PST
Seller: Maria Niforos, Ebay seller mithya, London-New York, United States
Comments: A very interesting needlelace fan leaf. I’ve asked for some closeups of the cordonnet before I’ll definitely say Burano, although I’m thinking it’s probably OK. The design is good, if a little heavy handed for this form. Kind of a throwback to 18th c design, a good try, but could be a little more refined. Nice clothwork variations used as filling, along with some bridework. A few little holes in the mesh, but overall good condition.

$102.50, 2 bidders, reserve not met.

http://tinyurl.com/86gfjx4 ANTIQUE LACE-C.18-19THC.EARLY LACE COLLAR

Starting Price: $75.00
Auction ends: Jan 17, 2012 06:15:28 PST
Seller: Maria Niforos, Ebay seller mithya, London-New York, United States
Comments: This ‘collar’ has a good early Genoese feel. Note the dense, compact leaves and and the kind of ‘smashed’ stitches in the rest of the piece. That’s largely a result of the finishing process which has been lost today. All the threads gather at the foot edge between motifs and continue as expected.  Unclear if this has been formed from another length – I’ve been staring at the termination of the motifs at the collar edges, but photo’s aren’t close enough to say if that’s deliberate. I might go earlier than the seller on this one. Condition is a bit rough, some broken brides, but I don’t mind in this case.

Starting Price: $24.99 with reserve
Auction ends: Jan 17, 2012 13:29:36 PST
Seller: Ebay seller heartnsoul1, Hollis, New Hampshire, United States
Comments: I like to put up a whitework handkerchief like this occasionally, because the needlelace fillings are the same ones often used in Alençon lace. In the Atelier in Alençon they do both types of work. the embroidery on this one is excellent. A few small worn spots near the monogram, but otherwise very good condition.

$46.55, 3 bidders, reserve not met.

Ebay seller heartnsoul1, Hollis, New Hampshire, United States
Comments: A flat Point de Gaze handkerchief, excellent work. Some interesting spiderlike fillings in the little rings in various connecting bands. I’m especially intrigued by the 8-pointed flowers in the corners, they look padded somehow. The design is very dense and romantic – note also the extensions of the lace into the inner cloth. The picots on the edge are connected by a thread, in imitation of Alençon horsehair.  There are quite a few small holes in the net, but the rest of the lace looks fine.

   Sold for $150.00, 6 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/8yjxn2f 1903 Proctor Teneriffe Lace Making Kit

Starting Price: $49.00
Auction ends: Jan 17, 2012 19:04:40 PST
Seller:
Ebay seller wahoo-mercantile, Wahoo, NE, United States
Comments: Most Proctor teneriffe wheels you see for sale are round – this listing has one round and the rarer square one. Made of gutta-percha (look it up on wikipedia). That little stained thing to the right is actually the top cover of the box that the loom came in. These looms are meant to be pinned to a solid pillow like a pinchushion. Proctor doesn’t seem to have made pillows for their looms, so these are probably handmade. This is a very nice set with original mailing materials.

   Sold for $262.00, 6 bidders.

Seller:
Ebay seller meadowpaint, Carlsbad, California, United States
Comments: An Irish Crochet dress front with extensive raised work in the leaves and flowers. I’m note sure if the top edge is original. It’s quite a bold design. Single picot brides, I don’t think they are Clones knots. Looks a little yellowed, but overall very good condition.

   Sold for $42.01, 10 bidders.

Seller:
Ebay seller jhartsong, Portland, Maine, United States
Comments: I’ll guess Belgian on this piece, but am not sure. It can always be surprisng what they come up with in pieced lace variations. Very interesting almost Art Nouveau design of leaves and flowers, note the crossing of some of the design over itself. Simple, effective, and in good condition. Just a little staining and a broken place in the foot edge.

   Sold for $19.99, 1 bidder.

Seller:
Ebay seller calicogre, Ottawa, ON, Canada
Comments: A Brussels bobbinlace applique on machine net. The size is unusual, it’s more of a bonnet veil, but narrow and long. A sparse design with a few needlelace fillings. A few small holes in the net, but overall good condition.

   Sold for $26.00, 2 bidders.

Comments: Yet another Duchesse fan with Mother of Pearl sticks and bone ribs. This one has a box labeled ‘The Gorham Co’, Fifth Avenue, New York. The lace is pretty conventional, on the Bruges side of Duchesse. Condition looks very good.

   Sold for $66.00, 5 bidders.

Ebay seller iside58, MESSINA, ME, Italy
Comments: I’m reviewing this because I’ll be posting a Collecting piece on lace-related chromolithograph advertising cards soon. This is a complete set of 6 in Italian – it also came in French. It advertises Liebig’s Extract of Meat, a sort of meat paste in a jar invented in 1840. The back of each card tells a little more about the lace depicted on the front. The set looks in good shape, and it might just be the photography, but examples in my collection have quite vivid colors.

Sold for 8.50 EUR, 2 bidders.

Seller:
Ebay seller greatlace, Paris – Palm Beach, United States
Comments: Very similar to item 220925656511 that I reviewed in the January 8th Ebay Alerts. But narrower. This kind of laces dates back to the early 18th century, but here’s it’s more the late 19th early 20th century revival that led to today’s Point de Fee. A nice piece, very good condition, and it appears to be complete on both ends.

   Sold for $100.00, 1 bidder.

Seller:
Ebay seller discover4, London, United Kingdom
Comments: A good quality Brussels bobbinlace application on machine net. Has a few needlelace jours for accents – very simple. It’s a nice piece, the bobbinlace is good, and the esprits are over the top. Condition issue however, lots of small holes in the net. But I’d (almost) overlook that given the quality of the piece.

Sold for 62.00 GBP, 4 bidders.

Comments: A snails/slugs Honiton handkerchief with design of roses and some rather meandering leaf structures.  A few broken brides, but overall good condition.

Seller:
Ebay seller drb3905, Ocala, FL 34471, United States
Comments: It’s a Cluny-type guipure, maybe Miracourt? It looks like silk, and note the heavy gimp wound silk cord. I like the combination of the gimp-surrounded half stitch with raised leaves, and the plain whole stitch guipure with no gimp. Very good condition, no damage that I can see.
