Comments: There’s only one small photo of this piece, and it’s hard to say if it is handmade. But the general feel is correct for a varied-ground Le Puy guipure. the ‘spiderweb’ roundels are unusual.  Condition looks good, but again, not many photos.

Comments: A Brussels Duchesse bertha that looks to be in very good condition. A bit outside the norm, with simple non-raised flowers in the Point de Gaze inserts, and extensive ring fillings in the oval cartouches.  I find the design a little rigid. It is well made and interesting, but I’m not so sure how well it works as a bertha.

Comments: The seller has several other lengths of this lace posted, see also 350534421875 and 350534424952. The design has a kind of 5-hole ground, not unknown in Valencienne experimentation. The motifs are quite loosely worked, and the design a little primitive. I’m wondering just how true to early Valenciennes this is, and if perhaps it coud be something else. Condition is very good.

Comments: A Rosaline (n perls), narrow border. It’s a little unusual to find this lace in border form, more often it is made in specialized pieces. This one has a good dense design with some ropey raised work. Seller cites a few stains, otherwise very good condition.

Comments: A French lacemaker’s lamp set, consisting of a glass magnifier (sometimes called a ‘doulhi’, with a case made out of a pricked bobbinlace pattern – note the silver medal attached.. Occasionally you see these two together, but it is very rare to have the accompanying oil lamp.  Overall good condition, although I’m not sure if that tilt in the wick area of the lamp is damage or not.

Comments: A lushly designed high quality Point de Gaze border, in an excellent length. No raised work, but that’s good, it allows the design to be more naturalistic, and to exploit a good variety of decorative fillings. Condition looks very good, I can’t see any problems from the photos. Someone, please save this piece from the wedding dress designers.
