Comments: Keep an eye on this seller, who seems to have come across several very large Le Puy-type or even Cluny/Miracourt guipures. It’s on French Ebay, and doesn’t seem to have an end date. The size seems consistent with an Alb flounce although I don’t see any specific religious iconography. Condition appears excellent; seller notes only one small defect, hardly noticeable.

Comments: A Brussels Duchesse fan with nicely carved blonde sticks. The lace is in very good shape. The needlelace insert is a bit unusual, no raised work, and some different flowers.  The bobbinlace motifs are nicely done, but a little large, giving the piece a bit of a clunky look. I don’t see any condition problems in the lace.

Comments: I’d call it a ‘dress front’. See also item 150767672882 which are the matching cuffs to this piece. Sometimes caleld ‘Old Flanders’, it is a pieced bobbinlace with a ground of coarse needlelace, of 2 different sizes.  It’s a good set – this kind of lace sometimes gets very coarse. Designs of pomegranates and flowers are nicely done. Condition is good, just a few small holes in the mesh near the neckline.

Comments: An interesting little jacket of Point de Venise, probably Belgian.  The wide spacing on the cordonnet buttonholing is usually the giveaway. Fillings are basically clusters of 3 twisted buttonholes, and there’s a picoted bride ground. No shaping to the raised cordonnet.  It’s not the greatest 19th-20th c Point de Venise I’ve ever seen, but it is well designed for the purpose and I like the overall effect.  A little frayed in places, and something seems to be missing along the bottom.

Comments: An Irish Crochet border with simple, elegant motifs. Some raised areas in flower center. Irish crochet plays a lot with trefoil and quadtrafoil motifs. Note the flowers are mostly joined together in groups of 3 or 4.  The picoted bride ground might have Clones knots, hard to tell from the photos. The ground is a fairly regular square mesh. Condition looks very good, I don’t see any problems from the photos.

Comments: Something I’ve never seen before, carved bobbins of the narrow Le-Puy style. Carved bobbins are used extensively in Queyras, but they have a more bulbous form. Seller says they are from the Alps, but exactly where I’m not sure.

Comments: A Brussels Duchess border I like the work on the large bobbinlace flowers and the masses of buds along the lower edge. Other parts are a little looser at the top. The Point de Gaze inserts are simple flat flowers with a few buttonhole rings.  Note the good raised work in the bobbinlace leaves at the bottom of the piece. Condition is good, one major tear shown in the bottom photo.

Comments: These little metal looms are for Teneriffe lace and are fascinatingly complex. Having tried a few, they don’t work quite as well as they might, but who cares. They were often marketed through the Grands Magasins du Louvre.  These don’t seem to have any rust, which is important. Original backing with one, unusual.Their use is described in “La Dentelle de Ténériffe by Cousine Claire, who shows 15 different sizes for these looms.
