Comments: A wide flounce of Brussels Application on machine net. The motifs and fillings are well done, with nicely defined relief in the raised edgings. Fillings are limited to a 5-pointed star, and there doesn’t appear to be any needlelace. This is a bit unusual. It comes in three pieces, one with an obvious seam. Seller says all pieces have a few small holes.

Comments: Brussels application on machine net, a wide crinoline flounce. Quite an extensive design of naturalistic flowers, no esprits in the ground. Some simple needlelace grids of rings used as fillings. The flowers are nicely delineated with open borders. Motifs are a little to large for my taste, it’s a nice presentation, but not the most complex design. Some scattered pinholes, a few small holes and 4-5 larger holes. Length is excellent.

Comments: I’m not sure what kind of lace this is. I’ll guess Bruges, with the plaited double ring ground. The motifs with the square mesh ground recall Ghent work, but not as fine as you usually find. Overall good condition, just a few small openings.

Comments: An interesting Valenciennes border, quite complex. No ombre shading, but areas of almost a tape-like motif that give the piece some relief. This is quite a change from the usual flat line-drawn motif. 19th century square mesh, all the work is well done. Looks to be in very good condition, I don’t see any problems from the photos.

Comments: The Proctor Teneriffe Lace Wheels were invented and distributed by Augusta Proctor of Viroqua, Wisconsin in the first decade of the 1900’s (patented 1903). It came in a round and square version. They are one of the simplest and most elegant of all the Sol lace looms. The black ones are made in gutta-percha, an inelastic natural latex product from the Southeast Asias Palaquium tree sap. Round looms are more common, and it is rare to find the box in good condition. Normally the loom is attached to a heavy small pillow with pins to provide a working base.

Comments: The top is a dress front, the bottom a narrow shawl collar, both of Honiton. The top is a bit snails/slugs, and the bottom a little more innovative with some naturalistic fern leaves and flowers. Both techniques are quite good, although the shawl collar seems worked a bit loosely. Both in very good condition, seller notes some neck discoloration on the bottom piece.

Comments: A fairly wild Irish Crochet cape collar, with large motifs, lots of raised work. Looped picots on the bride ground. It’s an impressive piece, but I think the motifs are a bit too large, the design not all that well put together, and the technique a little loose. I think it’s the fault of the kind of thread they used, a bit coarse. Condition looks very good, occasional broken bride.
