Comments: A Point de Gaze handkerchief, no raised work, excellent quality. Not much in the way of jour fillings, but what is there complements the design well. Attachment to the center cloth is integral to the design. The flowers and leaves could be a bit more naturalistic, but overall this is an impressive piece. Condition looks very good, maybe one slightly loose ring just below center left, otherwise it looks untouched. Just a few unimportant small spots.

Comments: Great box. Cool sticks, nicely intact. A Brussels Duchesse fan leaf with one major Point de Gaze insert in the center, raised petal rose. The bobbinlace is a little conventional, but I like the contrast with the large area of needlelace. Condition looks very good, I don’t see any problems.  Needs a darker ground for the photograph – photographing white pieces on a light ground sharpens every little defect and often gives a piece a dirty look that isn’t really there.

Comments: A Maltese handkerchief with extensive guipure work and a kind of spider ground. These motifs are a bit unusual for a piece this size – and it is quite small. I think it’s whiter than it looks fro the main photographs.  Seller cites one small break on an edge, otherwise good condition. Note the silk center, typical of Maltese handkerchiefs.

Comments: There have been quite a few of these deep Irish Crochet collars lately, and this one is quite nice.  Tightly worked motifs, raised work,  and very good condition. The picots are not Clones knots, but clusters of double stitch.  A few breaks in some brides, nothing serious.

Comments: This is not Duchesse, it’s a lovely Point d’Angleterre piece, later 19th c.  Delicate bobbinmade motifs with Point de Gaze mesh, extensive needlelace fillings.  One of the very best Belgian laces.  The quality of this kind of lace can vary a lot – this one isn’t the absolute top quality, but definitely a high end product.  And finer than it looks; keep in mind it’s only 6″ wide. Condition is very good, I don’t see any problems from the photos.  It’s a beautiful, collectible length.

Comments: Another exceptional example from this seller, Point d’Alençon in an excellent length and width. Alençon was known as a ‘Winter’ lace, rather heavy with all the formal cordonnet work and horsehair stabilization.  This piece is a meant to be ruffled, with the more vertical design. The toilé is quite open, a mark of a slightly later piece. Nice fillings, and beautiful technique all around. Seller cites a little age discoloration, minor. I think I see a few repairs to the net here and there, very well done. Look for the whiter parts in the upper net in the photos, I think those are repairs/replacements.
