Comments: A Mechlin border with a dense pattern of naturalistic flowers at the lower edge, and sprigs in the upper ground.  Note the extensive use of halfstitch shading in the largest flowers.  Note also the unusual straight lower border, which does seem to be part of the design. Seller cites a few loose threads on the header, trivial. Overall very good condition.

Comments: Second quarter 18th c, a Valenciennes border with cinq trou ground. Valenciennes of this period experimented with several grounds before settling on the round hole, and later square hole meshes.  This is a very fine piece, not the small width, and the good line-drawing patterns in the clothwork. Interesting almost plaid-like filling stitch in places.  This kind of lace is one of my favorites. It does have some condition issues, a little worse for wear, but not bad considering the age. Wish there were more of it.

Comments:  A good length of Point de Gaze with raised petal roses. Note the diamond windows in the raised petals, sign of a better manufacturer. Comments: The photos aren’t close enough to tell, but I’m guessing Point d’Angleterre. A closer examination of the mesh might show that it is a machine tulle, but the work is so fine that a needlemade mesh isn’t out of the question. A sweet piece in very good condition. The bobbin motifs are well made and nicely scaled.  Simple picoted rings fill the outer flowers. If there’s any damage I can’t spot it from the photos given.

Comments: The doily isn’t the best, but the letter accompanying it helps make this piece.  I don’t know much about the history of ñanduti lace, but if the date is contemporary, good quality work was being made around 1951.  I’m not entirely sure I understand the references to the flowers and how they relate to the motifs, but it is a good topic for investigation. The lace itself looks in good condition, although hard to spot problems against the light background.

It’s not a typical Point de Gaze design, but points more toward Art Nouveau stye. Not the absolute greatest design, but very good technique, and the condition appears excellent. I couldn’t spot any problems from the photos, and the sticks are also in good shape.

Comments: A Slovak costume bonnet, I don’t know anything about Slovakian folk costumes, so will trust the seller on this one. The lace appears to be a point ground, more along Bucks or Lille tradition. Slovakia is known for freehand laces, and I don’t know if they had a point ground tradition.  The rest of the cap is a colored embroidered net, and together these two are very effective.  Condition appears very good, I don’t see any problems from the posted photos.
