Comments: An interesting mid 18th c Mechlin border with a variation of a snowflake ground. There’s another narrow Flemish border attached at the top.  The condition is not good, but it’s such an unusual piece that I wouldn’t mind much.

Comments: This is a very high quality doll, porcelain head and hands on a jointed wooden frame and a human hair wig. It was produced by Wendy Lawton in 1996, called “Bobbin Lace”, part of the “Fabric of America” collection (350 in the edition).  Several years ago I asked Wendy how she came up with the inspiration for this doll, and she answered, “I have always loved the Lacis in Berkeley, CA. It was on a trip there that I first saw bobbin lace.”

Comments: A Maltese lappet scarf that gets lots of points for excellent condition. I also like the unusual woven leaves in a rectangular grid used as a ground. Otherwise it’s a fairly standard design, no unusual guipure work, but overall a nice example.

Comments: Another Maltese piece, this one quite a long scarf. It seems to be made up of three pieces sewn together longitudinally – a typical Maltese construction dictated by the width of the long, narrow pillow. Good dense design in very good condition – I don’t see any problems from the photos.

Comments: A pair of Honiton cuffs. Snails/slugs period with a rather haphazard design, but the technique is quite well done. Tightly woven with nice crisp detail. Looks very white in the photos, maybe washed?

Comments: This seller is offering several laces which were obtained at auction from a museum exhibit – if I read the listing right.  Unfortunately they are all folded in half which makes it difficult to really examine them. I’ll just discuss this one, which appears to be a lappet scarf of Brussels Duchesse, with lots of small flowers almost recalling Rosaline. The technique is good, especially the veined leaves on halfstitch ground.  I can’t really say much about the condition without seeing more of the piece.
