Comments: Hard to see against the pink background, but this is a good Honiton handkerchief border. The motifs are breaking away from snails/slugs, with extensive tally fillings and figural work. I can find two birds in opposite corners, and the more naturalistic flowerwork is quite nice. Condition is a bit off with a number of loose brides – nothing major.

Comments: You need to stare a lot at this piece.  Look at photo #12, and note the change in the net ground along the large border, and without really close photos it’s hard to interpret what is going on. But I think it’s a massive repair to the heavy border, and you can see how the rest of the ground is rather fragile, lots of holes. It’s almost a wholesale replacement of the ground, and I can’t tell if it is a machine tulle repair, or an actual reworking of the ground. I think this is a Lille or Arras piece, with shades of Beveran-like design. I’m thinking it might be an original design. From the uneven quality of the surviving point ground  (again a sign of Arras), I think the thread might be linen.

Comments: Might be Maltese if it is silk.  The condition is very good, and I like the contrast between the lattice ground and the leaf-like outer boarder.  These are not entirely typical Maltese elements, but the whole effect is quite pleasing.

Comments: I’ve seen Honiton initials like this made by Mrs. Sharp (Author of Point and Pillow Lace), who operated in the early 20th century. Comments: A Flemish Pottery lacemaker that looks to be in very good condition, from the sole photo.  This seller has offered several nice similar pieces in the past. Seller does not cite a maker, but the ‘flame’ glaze might indicate a Brugge piece. The blue on her face was probably a misstep in firing.  The brown pincushion on the pillow is unusual.
