Comments: A deep, well done Irish Crochet collar. Tightly worked small motifs are a bit beyond the conventional designs, and note the looped corded technique used around some of the flowers. Also the interesting ornamentation inside the edge motifs. There seem to be some ‘darts taken around the shoulder area starting at the neckline – wonder if this is an adaptation of another piece or if it is deliberate. The neckline is a different pattern and may have been added later. There’s also some funny folding going on at the necklinecorners. Overall good condition, just a little fraying along the neckline, and seller cites some breaks in the brides that I can’t find in the photos. I think it’s a later piece – nicely done.

Comments: A Teneriffe-type handkerchief. Given the origin of the seller, it could be Ñanduti although it doesn’t have the typical palm leaf motifs or lattice fillings. Good design in the roundels, and execution is done with a reasonably fine thread. Overall good condition, seller cites some yellow stains, but the lace seems intact.

Comments: A Honiton fallcap. The design is roughly symmetric around the center line, definite snails/slugs era.  A fairly haphazard pattern. The ground is needlemade, making this a ‘Point Honiton’ piece, although not quite as systematically done as in other pieces. Large areas of tally fillings.  A little frayed and some breaks especially along the outer edge. I think there has been some repair. Seller says the piece has been cleaned but gives no details on how this was done.

Comments: I find this set quite interesting, even beyond the fact that it has survived intact. The naturalistic oak leaves, and perhaps acorns? is an unusual motif even for a Brussels lace.   I’ve seen a few collars like this before with very naturalistic leaves, and they all are a puzzle. I wonder if it’s maybe a Ghent piece, note the ‘line-drawing effect in the acorns which is almost taken from Valenciennes. Overall condition very good, just a few loos threads along the border of the cuffs, probably clipped off from a sewing thread. Maybe a little problem along the inner edge of the collar just to center right? Nothing major.

Comments: An Irish Crochet blouse, late 19th early 20th c. No provenance given for the date in the writeup. I especially like the large trefoils and quatrefoils, with extensive tightly done clothwork. The style changes a little at the bottom, this may be a different piece added on. The collar seems to be the same design as the blouse, but reworked to shape to fit. Not enough closeups to tell anything about the sleeves. The piece seems to be mounted on a tulle lining. Seller notes a minor age spots, and the lace looks in good condition.

Comments: A scalloped ’round’ piece of Brussels bobbinlace application on machine net.  Note the 8-fold symmetry which might speak to a small parasol cover, however there is no hole in the center. I’m thinking it started out that way, but was never properly mounted. This kind of lace was really never done up in large ‘doilies’.  There are a few needlelace elements, basically some Point de Gaze mesh used as fillings, and rings worked on that mesh.  And one picoted ring at the center point. A few small holes in the net, not particularly serious.   Overall condition very good.
