Comments: Five items of Irish Crochet including 3 collars, one cuff, and one motif. The motif might be a French piece given the hanging ornaments.  The smaller collar and cuff match in style but not in exact design.  The two other collars have good raised work, and I like the density of the dress frontpiece.  A nice little collection, and seems to be in good condition although I can’t see much of the details.

Comments: Two pieces of the same lace from the Blair House sale. The top portion is reticella, the bottom is a Genoese-type bobbinlace.  I don’t think the bobbinlace is early, especially given the funny edge next to the reticella cloth. And the general work is a bit too tape-like, a little simplistic. Although the gathering of bobbins in that triangular form at the base of the scallops is a Genoese feature. As for the reticella, there’s an interesting sheen to the border where it meets the bobbinlace which might indicate some age. The technique is correct, but it doesn’t quite have the sophisticated feel of a really early piece. Overall condition looks very good, maybe just a little staining.

Comments: A monogrammed whitework handkerchief with Valenciennes border. Lace collectors are often attracted to things like this because of the needlelace stitches used in the embroidery. When I was studying in Alençon, we were taught both lace and whitework embroidery.  This is an excellent example with a border of leaves and needlelace stitches on the outer edge. Very good condition, looks like it was just sold from the manufacturer.

Comments: All four pieces of t his Brussels Duchesse are very similar in style, but I’m not entirely sure they are meant to go together. For example, the insert has no raised work in the bobbinlace while the cuffs and neckpiece do. The neckpiece has more elaborate leaves than the other two.  And I think the color might be a little different among the pieces. Still, they are so similar that no one would notice if worn together.  Raised petal roses in the Point de Gaze inserts. Overall condition looks good for all of them.

Comments: A high end market Point de Gaze flounce, formed in a circle. The joining seam is well done. Probably a Crinoline flounce, meant to go around a large skirt. The condition is outstanding. This is definitely a better manufacturer, note the elaborate layering on the raised rose petals. Some good decorative fillings, I only wish they had done more in that area, and also played with some shading a bit. But the whole thing is carried well by the design.
