Comments: A good example of a fairly common design in Maltese bobbinlace, but one which is more advanced in technique. ‘Wheat ears’ along the neckline, and a lighter alternating Maltese cross and roundel on the outside. Inside are M. Crosses on a dense woven leaf ground. You find slight variations of this combination quite often, and this one is very nicely done. Seller cites some loose spots and a hole or two, nothing serious, overall good condition. The photos on the manikin show the color nicely, this doesn’t photography well against a light background.

Comments: This is a Brussels Duchesse fan leaf of high quality, and a delight to see after so many that were made without a lot of regard to good design. Raised rose petals in the Point de Gaze insert, and note the scattered esprits in the ground and the rather elaborate fillings. Good raised work in the bobbinlace everywhere. What looks like an extra piece at the end is just the part that attaches to the guard stick, and is very typical in a fan leaf. An occasional broken bride and pinhole or two in the needlelace mesh, but overall very good condition. The seller is listing two other pieces from this set, see below.

Comments: Brussels application bobbinlace applied onto machine tulle. There are very simple needlelace fillings in the larger elements. Note the patterns of rings of flowers, I’m wondering if this is a wedding motif.  The bobbinlace motifs are fairly large, a bit loosely done and a little conventional in design. No esprits in the net, but the design fills the space very well. I’d place this as a later 19th, early 20th c piece.

The spaces where the petals should be have a rather typically done base stitch which would be hidden by the raised work. The extensive grids of rings is unusual, and gives a stiffer border to an otherwise lighter design. There are a few unfortunate holes in the mesh which makes me think the condition is a bit short of good.
