Size: not given
Starting Price: $85.00
Auction ends: Sep 05, 2013 12:21:21 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  wwwtextilingcom, Henrico, Virginia, United States
Comments: A Rosaline collar. No needle- or bobbin-made perls, and the motifs do generally have raised edges.  The design is a little scattered, but I think it works quite well. No condition notes, but I don’t see any obvious problems from the photons. Generally very good condition.

Auction ends: Sep 05, 2013 15:19:02 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  kirkyl, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States
Comments: A Brussels Duchesse long collar, boning added for support. No needlelace, and the bobbinlace is done in larger motifs with a little raised work. The photos are rather small, hard to make an exact valuation, but basically very good condition.

Size: 17.5″ diameter
Starting Price: $35.00
Auction ends: Sep 07, 2013 10:08:31 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  lacemerchant, Whiting, Indiana, United States
Comments: An Idrija bobbinlace large circular “doily”, although that term doesn’t seem entirely appropriate.  It is a simple tape lace, mostly plain, but with a few decorative elements forming some heart-shaped motifs. Impressive what you can do with a simple technique like this.  Can’t be absolutely sure it is from Idrija since this is a style that migrated extensively into popular lacemaking instructions. But the design itself has that flavor. Looks in generally very good condition.

http://tinyurl.com/ll55jls Antique Silk Maltese Lace Wedding Hanky Handkerchief 1850-1870
Size: 16″ square
Starting Price: $99.99
Auction ends: Sep 08, 2013 06:56:01 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  mellow44, Tiverton, Rhode Island, United States
Comments: A Maltese handkerchief.  It is sewn on a green board, I don’t know if the backing is acid free. Probably best to remove.  The piece is a three layer construction – outer alternating Maltese crosses and flowers with a good guipure on the inner border.  Middle has Crosses against an interesting woven leaf ground.  The inner border is simple crosses of woven leaves – I think it is made along with the middle section. There are some missing woven leaves in the middle ground – unusual damage for a piece like this and difficult to fix. A patch repair to the center silk. Basically good condition.

Auction ends: Sep 08, 2013 16:25:55 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  malin0693, Comunidad Valenciana, España
Comments: It can be quite difficult to distinguish French, Spanish, and Russian black guipures. This one with the very narrow undulating guipure ‘tapes’ has a Spanish feel. It is a bold looking piece with a picoted plaited ground; and guipure motifs against a point ground. Seller says it is linen, but difficult to tell from the photos. Seller cites a few loose spots – generally good condition.

Starting Price: 24.95 GBP
Auction ends: Sep 08, 2013 10:11:14 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  derbeatle, Cheltenham, United Kingdom
Comments: A rectangular Honiton shawl, many figural butterfly elements.  Snails/slugs style, quite nicely worked with tight weaving.  I love the seller’s comment: “Honiton lace was said to take it’s design inspiration from the hedgerows of Devon.” I’ll have to look into that.  It does have the general wonderful English flower garden feel.  Seller cites a few brown marks, and I can’t spot any obvious damage from the photos.  Basically very good condition.

Offered by: Ebay seller  lacemerchant, Whiting, Indiana, United States
Comments: An Irish Crochet cap – in the French style, probably made in France. It has the very typical free petal chrysanthemum motifs, and heavy raised work in the centers of flowers.  Also the unusual decorative grounds. Seller cites some breaks in the ground, generally good condition.

Starting Price: 25.00 EUR
Auction ends: Sep 08, 2013 12:05:24 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  linen-cupboard, Crawcrook, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom
Comments: The design of this triangular shawl of muslin applique on machine net seems to match overall, but the construction is a little puzzling.  First, note there is an insert of backing material which could be removed. Then there is a center triangular piece which appears to be bordered with a deeper flounce gathered to form a ruffle. In this respect it resembles the construction of Spanish mantillas. The motifs are attached with tambour chain stitch, which might indicate a Belgian origin. The muslin itself is often embroidered in white, and there is good needlerun work used as fillings. An impressive looking piece.  I can’t see any obvious damage from the photos – but given the type of lace there are probably the occasional pinhole. Still, I’ll give it the highest generally very good condition rating, and that has certainly been helped by the cloth backing.

Comments: What would the Ebay Alerts be without at least one Maltese lappet scarf? This one has some innovative work with woven leaves, so close together that they overlap creating a raised work impression. Something you don’t see all that often.  Note how it has been used to separate the arms of the Maltese cross at the ends – clever. There are variations of Maltese crosses everywhere in this piece. Seller says it was in a box from Thomas Wallis & Co, London, a shop that closed in 1941.  Perhaps a few tiny brown spots in the photos, but generally it looks in very good condition.

Comments: A small dress frontpiece of Duchesse de Bruges – meaning Duchesse bobbinlace without needlelace inserts.  Well organized design relying on just a few motifs. Note the raised work in veins and on the scrolls. Looks in basically very good condition – a few loos threads just to the lower right of the penny in the photo, but I think that’s probably a poor job of tying off in the making of the piece.

Comments: I’m fascinated by this piece.  The edge is crocheted, but the center is a drawnwork linen with a buttonholed cordonnet on the motif edges.  And a picoted buttonholed bride ground. I don’t think there are two colors of linen, it’s just an effect of the drawnwork on the original cloth. No idea where it was made. It does seem a little too open for a placemat, so not even sure of the purpose.  Looks in generally very good condition.

Comments: Very difficult to see the details of this piece since it has been photographed on white. It appears to be a Point de Gaze collar with raised petal roses. Some decorative ‘mode’ fillings.  I can’t tell much about the condition because of the contrast in the photographs.  But I’ll guess generally good.

Starting Price:$45.00 with reserve
Auction ends: Sep 09, 2013 08:56:45 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  lmlantiques, Montevideo, Uruguay
Comments: A fan of bobbin and needlelace application on machine net. Pierced Mother of Pearl (probably Abalone) sticks. Good design, and the bobbinlace work is quite delicate, using just a few simple needlelace filling accents. Basically most needlelace is confined to the rose motifs (no raised petals). Seller cites a few rust spots on the lace, sticks look intact.  Basically very good condition.

Offered by: Ebay seller  beyondthetower, SOMERSET, United Kingdom
Comments: If my arm weren’t in a sling because of recent repeat shoulder surgery, I’d haul out some books to try to find out more about this lace. It has that kind of naive charm of the Northern Italian, southern French freehand laces, or maybe even Pescocostanzo (although the ground isn’t right for that origin). There is one detailed photo of a corner, and it looks properly turned, not sewn from a longer length. Can’t swear to that for all 4 corners. It was a border to something, and the condition of the inner edge looks a little rough. Or maybe it’s just remnants of the original cloth cut away – hard to tell if it actually affects the edge of the lace  Otherwise condition looks basically very good.

Offered by: Ebay seller  tuquiri00, Adelaide, SA, Australia
Comments: A moderately deep flounce of Brussels application on machine net, both bobbin and needlelace motifs.  Just a few simple needlelace fillings. The needlelace motifs are confined to the roses, much like the fan reviewed above.  It has a typical romantic design found in the 2nd half of the 19th century which extended in to the early 20th c. Condition is generally very good, looks unused. Although I can spot a few pinholes in the mesh, not unusual even for laces of this type in the very best condition.
