http://tinyurl.com/mnvkndk Lovely Antique Blonde Silk Handmade Maltese Lace Shawl Ex Cond
Size: 25″ x 62″
Starting Price:  $4.99 with reserve
Auction ends:   Sep 19, 2013 10:24:47 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  mctiques, Winterport, Maine, United States
Comments: A Maltese mantilla with lappet ends. The centerpiece has one side peaked, which is a nice change from the strictly oval form you often see in these pieces.  The edges are a typical alternating flower and Maltese cross chain. The center has a lot of good guipure work, although it’s a bit hard to make out from the photos. Looks like a center round medallion surrounded by more roundels, then feathering off into the lappets.  Reminds me of the triangular shawl construction.  The ground is a woven leaf rectangular grid.
Condition: Modifications:  none
Damage:  Seller cites a few tiny places that may need repair.
Soilage: It looks a little off color, maybe age fading. The edges are also a little wrinkled – looks a little worn.

Size:  laid flat: 11″ x 8″, 2.5″ deep
Starting Price:  $10.00
Auction ends:  Sep 19, 2013 16:53:33 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  snakey03rr, Bourbon, Missouri, United States
Comments: A small Honiton guipure collar, well out of the snails/slugs phase. The design uses only a few simple motifs with tally fillings, nicely executed. Note the use of both plaited picoted brides, and a woven bride just inside the edge flowers. The design symmetric, quite effective.
Condition: Modifications:  none
Damage:  None
Soilage: Seller cites ivory color. I see a few small rust stains in the photos.

Auction ends: Sep 20, 2013 07:57:02 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  nedbraden1972, Spokane, Washington, United States
Comments: A narrow border of bobbinlace application on machine net – look Belgian. The motifs are quite delicate, but rather sparse.  Raised edges on the trefoils in the ground, no decorative fillings.  Quite plain, but well done.
Condition: Modifications:  cut both ends.  I think the upper edge is intact, bit hard to tell from the photos.
Damage:  Occasional pinhole.
Soilage: Some tiny rust spots, localized.

Size:  2″ x 32″
Starting Price:  $28.00
Auction ends:  Sep 21, 2013 17:00:35 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  lacemerchant, Whiting, Indiana, United States
Comments: A border of Maltese – the top and bottom are slightly different so it isn’t strictly an insertion.  Design of flower roundels, only one layer.  It’s a little unusual to find Maltese in a border like this.
Condition: Modifications:  cut both ends
Damage:  Nothing obvious from photos.
Soilage: One small stain round the middle of the piece.  One edge folded a little toward one end.

Comments: The collar is Carrickmacross guipure with both looped picots around the edge and straight picots  in the brides. Some simple needle-made fillings. Good symmetric design.
The border is a machine-made muslin cutwork with what looks like Schiffli work in the brides and fillings.
Condition: Modifications:  border attached to a tape. Not sure if ends are cut. Collar is intact.
Damage:  Nothing obvious on the collar.
Soilage:  Border has a number of localized red stains.

http://tinyurl.com/mubtxee ANTIQUE 19thC HM BEAUTIFUL LONG & WIDE POINT d’ANGLETERRE/ BELGIUM FLOUNCE
Size: 6″ x 120″
Starting Price: $325.00
Auction ends: Sep 21, 2013 20:24:54 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  snakey03rr, Bourbon, Missouri, United States
Comments: An interesting Point d’Angleterre border, good collectible width and length.  It has the design feel of mid 18th C droschel grounded bobbinlaces, simulated with the point de gaze mesh and fillings of a more bride-like stitch. Hard to tell if that is bobbin or needle-made. The motifs are finely made – note no decorative ‘mode’ fillings that are so often found in this kind of lace. There’s one place in the last photo where the point de gaze passes in front of one motif – not sure what is going on there.
Condition: Modifications: Cut at both ends.
Damage:  Scattered pinholes and small holes in the Point de Gaze mesh. One separation at bottom edge.
Soilage:  Looks quite clean.

Size: neckline 18″, front 9″, back 8.5″, shoulder 9″ wide
Starting Price: 64.00 GBP
Auction ends: Sep 22, 2013 07:21:06 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  greatlace, Palm Beach, Florida, United States
Comments: A ñanduti collar done in silk.  You don’t often see silk in this lace, and ait does introduce some limitations in the technique. Hard to evaluate the lace photographed on a white manikin, but the motifs seem a little loosely woven. The large roundels do seem to have varied patterns. You can spot ñanduti because of the palm leaf motifs around the edges.
Condition: Modifications:  none
Damage:  None that I can find on the photos, but hard to tell with white lace on white background.
Soilage:  One small mark at one edge, photographed.

http://tinyurl.com/n3wq2yy 2 lge flounces deep Brussels lace with needlemade fillings Antique Victorian
Size: 9″ x 128″,  9″ x 120:
Starting Price: 10.00 GBP
Auction ends: Sep 22, 2013 13:40:58 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  poppy1109, Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom
Comments: Two flounces of Brussels bobbinlace application on machine net. They were taken from the border of the same skirt, one on top of the other, and still are in circular form. The motifs are lightly worked, not very complex, later 19th c.  No esprits in the ground. A few simple needlelace fillings, basically a middle market product.
Condition: Modifications:  Joined, one seam each
Damage:  One flounce quite worn, numerous holes. The other seller estimates about 10% has some damage, mostly splits and small holes in the tulle, fairly localized.
Soilage:  Surprisingly clean.

Starting Price: 14.95 GBP
Auction ends: Sep 22, 2013 14:22:30 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  tedandbunny, DORSET COUNTRYSIDE, United Kingdom
Comments: An unusual Maltese collar in two colors of silk. I can’t recall seeing something like this before.  The guipure work and twisted wire connections are done in a lighter color, and it appears that all the woven leaves were done in the darker color, probably filled into the design later.  It has the typical layered Maltese construction, with what looks like 4 concentric rings of work.  Quite an impressive looking piece.
Condition: Modifications:  none
Damage:  Looks intact from the photos.
Soilage:  Appears clean, no obvious fold lines or storage marks.

http://tinyurl.com/kvfgorj Antique French Point de Gaze Lace Handkerchief / Excellent
Size: 12″ square
Starting Price: $59.00
Auction ends: Sep 22, 2013 19:00:09 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  textiles2012, Hydes, Maryland, United States
Comments: A Point de Gaze Handkerchief with raised petal roses. Some good decorative ‘mode’ fillings especially in the corners – also note the grids of rings also used as fillings.  Typical romantic ~3rd quarter 19th century design, although this type of lace was made in this quality until WWI.
Condition: Modifications:  none
Damage:  None that I can see from the photos, some of which are pretty fuzzy.
Soilage:  Looks clean, but hard to tell the exact color.

261289144062   Sold for $733.00, 7 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/kochfq6 *803 MAGNIFIQUE VOLANT ANCIEN POUR BAS DE JUPON DENTELLE DU PUY ÉP. ART NOUVEAU
Size: 21 cm (~8″) x 3 meters
Starting Price:  8.00 EUR
Auction ends: Sep 23, 2013 11:45:03 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  claude580_0, Pazy, France
Comments: Probably a Le Puy guipure with the most typical of grounds, a plaited, picoted 6 pointed star.  Solid clothwork in the star ground and against a halfstitch background.  No gimps, which is unusual for Le Puy.  A few woven leaves in a flower pattern. Spain is an option for this kind of lace, but the grounds are more typical of Hâute Loire region.
Condition: Modifications:  joined in a circle
Damage:  None that I can see from the photos.
Soilage:  Looks quite clean.

121177510387   Sold for 10.90 EUR, 3 bidders.

Starting Price: 4.00 EUR
Auction ends: Sep 23, 2013 11:47:16 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller  claude580_0, Pazy, France
Comments: A narrow border of Le Puy guipure, same star ground as the piece reviewed above.  The open circles are very unusual – it looks like the piece is unfinished and they should contain something. But this is not a construct that I remember from Le Puy laces.  Maybe it is just a decorative element, but it doesn’t seem very stable.  Some guipure in the plaited ground, and a few areas of half stitch used as fillings.  It’s a puzzle.
Condition: Modifications:  Cut at ends.
Damage:  None that I can see from the photos.
Soilage:  Looks quite clean.
