Notes: Laces in this auction run from lot 1 to lot 116 with some table linens, costume and fan laces after that. There are a lot of applications, Point de Gaze, and Chantilly that we come to expect in these auctions, but also take a look at:
Lot 16 – Alençon cap back, mid 18th c
Lots 22 and 24 – High quality Point de Gaze handkerchiefs.
Lot 25 – Set of monogrammed laces, probably application on machine net.
Lot 37 – Alençon or Sedan flounce, something similar in Lot 34.
Lot 39 – Burano flounce.
Lot 43 – Good Brussels bobbinlace with droschel ground cap back and some application barbes.
Lot 44 – This has a mid 18th c flat grounded Belgian needlelace used as a border.
Lot 51 – Blonde shawl
Lot 52 – Alençon and Mechlin borders.
Lot 60 – Valenciennes de Gand borders.
Lots 67 and 69 – Point de France borders
Lots 15, 17, 18, 19, 62, 66, 83 and 84 – Alençon borders, broken up into several pieces. Lot 68 is an early Alençon piece.
Lots 5, 42, 79, 98, 100 – Notable application on machine net.
Lots 13, 63, 101 – Point de Gaze borders.
Lot 102 – has 2 good ombre shaded Valenciennes borders.
Lots 103 and 104 – collections of good 18th and 19th century borders.
Lot 222 – Duvelleroy Art Nouoveau fan, hard to identify the lace. Might be needlelace.
Lot 250- probably a Belgian needlelace fan, the photo isn’t coming through too well.
Lot 256 – Point de Gaze fan, see also lots 255, 267, 270 for other good PtG fans.
Drouot is an organization of auction houses throughout France, including their main facility, the Hôtel Drouot in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. Established in 1852, Hôtel Drouot held a monopoly on French antiques auctions until legal reforms opened the way for international competition in 2000. The Gazette Drouot http://www.gazette-drouot.com/ lists upcoming auctions.
Bidding: Obviously you can come and bid in person. Phone or absentee bids are accepted by Chayette & Cheval.
Drouot Live bidding: Log on to http://www.drouotlive.com/ for the live auction registration button. All bidders must first register with Drouot and for the specific auction (before October 21st for this sale).
Drouot Online bidding:
Login at http://www.drouotonline.com/ for online auctions. Again you must first register with Drouot, and for the specific sale. There is a cutoff date for bids, which you leave before the auction bids. I don’t see the option for online bidding for this auction as of the date of this post. That usually comes closer to auction time, if it is an option at all.
Buyer’s Premium: 24% TTC (toutes taxe comprises, on the price and VAT) – check on this before the auction.
Payment due: Expected almost immediately after the auction, cash (there are limits), Swift, Bancaire or the Drouot Card.
