Offered by: Maria Niforos, Ebay name MITHYA, London and New York
Comments:
An unusual find – a Duchesse border, not particularly special, but in the original retailer’s box (Maison R. Foiret, Brussels).  The advertising folder is seen occasionally on Ebay, but I’ve never seen the butterflies attached.

Very nice long scarf of handmade Chantilly. Can’t tell if it is French or Belgian. Nice dense typical flower design, finely worked in basically good condition.

Current offer:
EUR 70, no bids
Auction ends: Sep 17, 2010, 11:23:18 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller Pliuy564, France
Comments:
This isn’t the greatest plior to come on the market, and you see originals on Ebay once every few months. A plior is a carved or otherwise decorated wooden plaque used to wind a finished length of lace, commonly used in the Haute-Loire area. Better examples have carved inscriptions, pierced decoration, or paint. Often reproduced today, buyer beware. They always sell for high prices; there’s a large community collecting primitive small wooden items.

Current offer:
EUR 1.00, no bids
Auction ends: Sep 19 2010, 11:14:04 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller alte_schaeferei, Germany
Comments:
The best Erzgebirge bobbin lace stands have painted decoration, are dated or inscribed, and show wear in the right places (feet, crossbars).  This one looks right, but don’t take that as proof positive. Nice three-part stand, with the top pillow basket painted with a flower design, the little covered box below, and the crossbar and feet. Children would often use the upper bar, adults the feet to steady the stand. Not adjustable, but some of the painted ones are not.

sold for 56.00 EUR

http://tinyurl.com/24zt3mx Antique Lace Fantastic Wide Gros Point de Venise c1670
Current offer: $400, no bids
Auction ends: Sep 18, 2010, 18:09:44 PDT.
Offered by: Paivi Roberts, Ebay name GREATLACE, of Palm Springs, Florida
Comments: Gros Point is difficult for the collector. The stuff is around, more with the dealers than on Ebay. But finding intact pieces is extremely difficult – so many have been reworked with motifs reassembled with no thought as to design. One should be able to follow the trail of the design continuously. In this piece, compare the two portions shown in the 2nd photo. They should match point to point, and they start out doing so at the right, but you lose it at the left.  Motifs vary from excellent to obviously worn. But it’s a good, long length, with varied clothwork and nicely sculpted cordonnets.

sold for $400.00
