Painting drapery is a traditional subject in art school but painting lace takes it to a whole new level! Come join me in exploring the intricate patterns of lace and figure out how to tackle this in paint. We will explore patterns, layering the paint, and painting the shapes of lace drapery. We will work in acrylics as we need the quick drying time but the techniques used are coming from my experience in oils and so very applicable in oils or any other media. Not suitable for absolute beginners. Come and practice precision, patience and a steady hand!

This event happens every year during the third week in May. From the 12th to the 16th there will be classes fils coupés, Cantù, and depending on demand, Torchon and Fin Fleuri de Bruges (Duchesse). The cost of a course is 140 EUR. Lunch is 8.00 EUR/day, association membership 20.00 EUR.
On Sunday the 17th will be the formal Rencontre; demonstrations, market. An exhibition of lace and other crafts will take place at the Salle de la Convivialité. This is embedded in a larger event shown in the poster below.

2014 event: More than 1800 lacemakers attended. A Guinness record for the longest lace (960.6 meters) was set. Last June, the Mayor of the Olot gave the Mayor of Terrassa a statue of a lacemaker, symbolizing the transfer of the yearly event to the 2015 venue http://tinyurl.com/k2qfum3. This is the Catalonian Lace Association annual lace day, no doubt the largest lacemaking event in the world. It is held in a different city each year. Bobbinlace only, and no non-laces allowed (cross stich, patchwork, crochet, etc.) Lacemakers are requested to come with their best work in progress.

This year the event is part of the Terrassa the XIII Fira de Modernista which runs May 9th and 10th, 2015. Hence the fairly ‘modernist’ look of the poster. Several textile museums in Catalonia, notably the Museu Tèxtil de Terrassa are collaborating on the Fair.

They attend numerous lace days as suppliers, and run two major events, the LQ&N and Fenland suppliers fairs. (The LQ&N used to be known as the East of England Lace & Textile Craft Supplier Fair, and the venue has changed). The next Makit event will be the 25th Anniversary Fenland Fair in Cambridgeshire, November 7, 2015.
