A few tiny holes, and one bad area between two scallops. I like the engrelure – shows how you can use a complex addition to add a little interest to the piece.

Comments: Nice length of Mechlin, hard to spot the date on this one. It has an 18th century flavor, but I’m thinking mid 19th c. The rather open design is a little too angular, and the fillings aren’t typically early. Can’t tell if thread is cotton or linen.

Comments: Belgian pieced bobbinlace, fine motifs with needlelace ground. Excellent work, looks in very good condition.This kind of small motif 19th c Belgian lace is not well documented. It can occur with or without the ground, and is found in a wide range of quality. Sometimes you see it called ‘Point de Milan’.

Comments: I think you would be surprised at how fine this lace is. It has all the characteristics of the earliest Irish Crochet, sometimes called ‘knotted guipure’. Note the little rings scattered around the design. The horseshoe motif is very typical in these laces.

Comments: A real exercise in fillings within a Honiton lace collar – wonderful variety. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. There are a few small holes that look easily fixable. The work on the motifs is tight and even – very nice piece.
