The Minnesota Lace Society is hosting the 2012 IOLI convention, and the Minnesota state motto is L’Etoile du Nord (The Star of the North), stemming from the state’s French Canadian Voyageur heritage. This leads directly to the 2012 contest theme, “STAR”. All entries must have at least one 5 or more pointed star within the design of the lace. If the star is not obvious, the lacemaker must place a note on the entry form indicating where the star can be found within the lace.
The contest has 3 categories:
The Doris Southard Award – Open to Teachers and Professional lacemakers
A $100 prize will be awarded subject to the decision of the judges.
All Lace Contest Rules must be followed with the pattern designed and executed by the entrant. A copy suitable for publication in the I.O.L.I. Bulletin of the original pattern and working directions must be submitted with the entry. Electronic submissions are preferred.
Original Design – Open only to Non-professional lacemakers
Prizes – 1st $100; 2nd $75; 3rd $50

Do not submit patterns or directions with lace made in this category
In Addition – the winner of a popular vote will receive a one-year complementary membership in the IOLI.
First rights to publication will be to the IOLI Bulletin throughout the year August 2012 – July 2013 with copyright of original designs retained by the designer.
