Comments: A ‘Point d’Neige’ border, reasonable length for this rare lace.  Very difficult to tell Venetian from French products – but when I see a very symmetric, candelabra type design with a hexagonal picoted mesh, my preferences are for Point de France. This kind of lace doesn’t come up too often, and overall it is quite well made.  Note entirely as exuberant as some I’ve seen, but a good example.  Late 17th century, and the condition is quite good given the age.  The design seems intact.

Comments: A reticella piece, and you can clearly see the linen foundation.  It could be early – the little tassels are a good sign.  But this type of lace was copied extensively into the 19th and 20th centuries. The triangular design elements resemble patterns in Mathio Pagan’s works on punti tagliati, first published in 1542.  This is a very collectible length in good condition.
