Comments: A Brussels Duchesse fan with gilded Mother of Pearl sticks and bone slips. The bobbin lace is fairly conventional, but the Point de Gaze is interesting. No raised work, but the flower basket mirrors approximately the one decorating the guard stick. Also note the two birds in the needlelace.  If I read the listing right, there are some marks on the lace probably from glue on the slips.  (I’m trying hard to use proper fan terminology).

Comments: I thought I’d put this one up even though there aren’t enough closeups to tell if it is handmade Point de Gaze.  From a distance it looks correct, with raised pointed-tip rose petals, sign of a better manufacturer.  I am a little bothered by the center linen, which doesn’t seem to match the quality of the lace.  Seller cites some ‘minor maker’s flaws’, whatever that means, and without closeups, it’s hard to give an opinion on the condition.

Comments: These two pieces are technically quite similar so I’m putting them together. My first inclination is Belgium – wish there were some closeups of the relief work. If the covering buttonhole is widely spaced, that would pin it down to Belgium. Then again there is some sculptural work to the relief, especially in the first one, which might lean more toward France, like point Colbert.  But I think I’ll stick with Belgium. The technical quality is quite good on both, and condition looks very good.
