Comments: A Brussels Duchesse handkerchief. Unfortunately not all the photos are present, but it appears to be a fairly conventional design with good raised work and raised petal roses in the Point de Gaze. Can’t tell much about condition, but I do see one gap in a Pt de G insert, looks repairable.

Comments: A Lille or Arras border, delicately done. Note the straight edge and the small motifs which are sometimes associated with Arras. I don’t see any obvious condition problems from the given photos.

Comments: A later 18th century Alençon border of a design sometimes called Herren Alençon.  Presumably because it could form ruffles for cuffs and cravats for gentlemen. It has a typical stiff lower border with réseau fin mesh and good fillings, complemented by a brides tortillée upper ground with sprigs. I don’t see any obvious horsehair, but it was probably used in the manufacture and then withdrawn. A nice example of this form. Seller notes some orange stains (localized) and two small areas of damage, both I think on the lower edge. Overall good condition for a lace this old.

Comments: An interesting embroidered net handkerchief with provenance. I can’t tell what the net is, it doesn’t look familiar.  In looking at the edges of the motifs, I’m wondering if this is drawnwork. Wish there were detailed closeups. The embroidery is beautifully done with interesting fillings. I’m guessing this is a French work.  I think I see a one pinhole, but overall very good condition.

Comments: Now here’s something quite interesting and very unexpected out of a Caribbean island. These are lace pillows based on the Queyras model, most often used for making freehand bobbinlace. The woodwork is wonderful.  They appear to have been made by a French ébéniste, but no details on the artist are given. Note also some excellent modern pliors that this artist is listing.

Comments: A Burano figural needlelace mat. It is quite a showpiece of techniques, mesh and bride grounds, raised work, and some fillings. Hard to tell what the woman is doing other than she seems to be sitting on the ground.  Looks in very good condition, I don’t see any defects from the photos. The seller is listing three other mats, the same as this one.

Comments: An interesting embroidered net which might be Limerick. It comes with a note indicating it was worn by a previous owner’s mother in 1830 and made by their aunt. The form of this collar is not inconsistent with designs of that period with the wide gigot sleeves and sloping neckline. The design itself seems to mirror the French blondes. There is a separate edging which is probably machine made.  The condition appears very good with only slight damage to the edging. Looks like there is one seam near the right hand corner.

Comments: A narrow Mechlin border. I’m guessing it is a 19th c piece, the flowers and sprigs look a little more romantic than 19th c work.  There are some spots, but the lace itself looks sound and in good condition. And it is nice and long.

Comments: Two lengths of 19th c Point d’Angleterre, meaning well-done bobbinlace with a Point de Gaze needlelace ground. This one has quite a delicate appearance, although the motifs are a little larger than usual, and there are no fancy fillings. Note the little rings used as esprits in the ground. Seller cites some staining and a few tiny holes, basically good condition.

Offered by: Ebay seller sirjle, Paris, France
Comments: I think this border is Belgian Point de Flandre, which was kind of an upscale Bloemwerk and downscale Duchesse. Actually that’s not fair, this is a perfectly good pieced Belgian lace with characteristics of both, and it can have some impressive designs. It is really based on the early 17th century Flemish and Milanese designs. Tends to be called ‘Old Flanders’ today.  This piece is nicely done with fillings and some ‘islands’ in the bride ground, which is also characteristic of Bruges Bloemwerk. Looks in very good condition from the photos.

Comments: An impressive panel of embroidered net. It looks like it has been cut at the sides, but still stands very well on its own. It’s a needlerun lace with nicely done fillings. A few small holes at the top, overall good condition.

Comments: An Le Puy guipure border with picoted star ground border. I like the design, much better than often seen (maybe the leaves are a little scraggly, but that’s minor). And it is a wide, long, collectible length. Looks in very good condition from the photos.

Comments: Oak leaves and acorns are certainly a British motif, but I’m not sure where this was done. Note, seller is showing a similar piece, #300854303253. It also has some similarity to German guipures.  I think the two smaller pieces are cuffs, while the longer one looks cut at the ends. Basically very good condition on them all.

http://tinyurl.com/b4xjbeg Magnificent antique/vintage Victorian lace collar 17th century Gros point lace
Size: neckline 45″, 9.5″ wide at back
Starting Price: 24.95 GBP with reserve
Auction ends: Feb 06, 2013 10:40:31 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller derbeatle, Cheltenham, United Kingdom
Comments: Usually remade 17th c Gros Point is pretty jumbled, but this piece looks very good. Someone put a lot of thought into arranging the motifs, and they aren’t too crowded so stand very well on their own. There are some nice sculpted edges, and the plain clothwork really gives it a carved appearance. The border is a later addition, but well done. The lace itself is a bit worn, as would be expected, so I’ll rate it as good overall condition.  It’s an impressive looking piece.
