Comments:  Ex. coll. Pat Earnshaw. The condition of this piece is rather short of good, but it is so interesting that I thought I’d put it up. With the delicately worked brides and tallies it does appear to be in the Beds style. But it lacks the definitive looped latticework edging – instead it goes for a more woven openwork. Fascinating. It is remarkably similar to the recently sold ebay item 390553302475.

Comments:  A large, impressive looking handkerchief of Brussels bobbinlace applique on machine net.  The lace has a few minor pinholes, overall very good condition, and the center cloth has a few holes. The design is so geometric that it reminds me of reticella or punto in aria.  It does look like the roses in the corners are done in needlelace.

Comments:  A semicircular hat veil of Chantilly lace.  Note the eyelets in the straight edge which are designed to hold a ribbon which gathers the lace around the back of the hat. The design is fairly simple, and I think I see a few minor pulls in the net. Looks in good condition overall.

Comments:  Ex. coll. Pat Earnshaw. This is a very recognizable Irish Crochet variant in a collar with long lappet ends. It is basically small 8-petaled flowerheads arranged in groups of three, each flower has a raised ring center. That’s the only motif, and you see this arrangement in many forms. I think the picots are crocheted, not Clones knots. The piece has been washed, and seller notes a few small repairs. Basically very good condition.

Comments:  Ex. coll. Pat Earnshaw. A narrow, long collar of Irish Crochet. The motifs are interesting and tightly worked, note the well-done raised work and nice picots on the edges of the motifs. This piece is reaching back toward the Gros Point origins of this lace, although not quite there.  Picots look like little double crocheted loops. There is some fraying in some of the pointed edgework. Overall good condition.

Comments:  A very wide crinoline flounce of Brussels bobbinlace application on machine net. Maybe even too wide for a crinoline, you can basically use it as a skirt as it stands, on an appropriate background. The design fills the large space well, and note the regular esprits running all the way to the top. It is a romantic design, although the individual motifs look a little plain to me – for example there doesn’t seem to be any raised work, just gimp outlines, and very simple needlelace fillings. But I’m nitpicking here. This piece has been valued – you can see some well done repairs in the net. Overall very good condition.

Comments:  A Beds collar with flower and leaf design. Nicely done raised tallies on the whole stitch cloth. You can find similar patterns, referred to as ‘rose and leaf’ in catalogs from the Bucks Cottage Workers Agency by Harry Armstrong, dated around 1910.  Some of the edgings on this piece look a little twisted, but I don’t think that’s serious. Basically good condition overall.
