Starting Price: $87.99
Auction ends: Apr 22, 2013 05:43:50 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller onlysunnydays49, Saint John, Indiana, United States
Comments: A deep collar of Bruges Bloemwerk. The motifs are rather large, and united with a regular square bride ground. All in all things are appropriate to the size. Things are a bit loosely worked causing some tapes to have a wavy appearance. Overall looks in very good condition.

Offered by: Ebay seller jaruk, Worcester, United Kingdom
Comments: A bonnet veil of needlerun lace. I don’t know the origin, could be Limerick, although there aren’t a lot of Irish design elements. Or Lier? The piece is very supple and white, with well done needlerun embroidery and fillings. Seller cites a few pinholes and some small holes in the net. Overall good condition.

Offered by: Ebay seller jaruk, Worcester, United Kingdom
Comments: A few of these Bucks-edged Tulle scarves have come up for sale recently. It’s a simple semi-handmade solution to getting a large amount of ‘point’ ground to a traditional point ground lace. The Bucks is fairly simple, and the machine net is quite supple and a good match for the lace. As for it being silk, the photos aren’t close enough to tell. I’d default to cotton without further information. There are some pinholes in the net grounds on both parts, and the Bucks looks a bit pulled in places. But overall good condition.

Size: 4″ x 34″ each
Starting Price: $65.00
Auction ends: Apr 22, 2013 11:18:02 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller jaruk, Worcester, United Kingdom
Comments: These cuffs are probably sections of a straight Mechlin border, slightly gathered at the top. The design resembles the Beveran straight edge, single flower border with masses of esprits in the ground. Although Beveran is a point ground with woven tallies used for esprits. Several laces followed this type of pattern, which was meant to be ruffled. The work here is excellent. Condition looks good, a few pinholes in the ground. As a collector I’d rather have the entire length intact, especially since we don’t know the exact history of these pieces. But they are excellent examples of the technique.

Starting Price: 430.00 EUR
Auction ends: Apr 22, 2013 12:05:27 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller valbya, Ile de France, France
Comments: A reasonably wide, exceptionally long crinoline flounce of Brussels bobbin and needlelace application on machine net (note the tag saying ‘application Bruxelles fleurs d’aiguille). The flowers are needle-made, while most of the foliage is bobbin. Some simple needle-made rings used as ‘mode’ fillings. The design isn’t the most elaborate you can find, but it fills the space well – note the esprits through the ground. Condition is good, it has been used, seller says it is slightly dusty. I don’t see any obvious damage, although not all of it has been photographed.

Offered by: Ebay seller isohex, Tyne-Wear,, United Kingdom
Comments: A rectangular tambour embroidery scarf on machine net. The raised embroidered roses and leaves really set this piece apart nicely. The leaves aren’t fully attached, giving a 3-d look to the design. I see some stains, some pinholes in the net and a tiny hole occasionally. Overall good condition.

Offered by: Ebay seller winterwonderlandfairy, london, United Kingdom
Comments: A collar of Duchesse de Bruges, somewhat on the Bloemwerk side. A little raised work on halfstitch, no needlelace that I can see. I’m having trouble deciding on the color, some photos look quite white, others have an overall beige cast. Could be either. A few brown stains, but I don’t see any obvious damage. Basically good condition.

Offered by: Ebay seller lady-linen, Seminole, Florida
Comments: A Point de Gaze butterfly with doubled wings. Note the clothwork variation in the body, and use of ‘mode’ fillings. These were made as tourist items in the 20th century – I knew a woman in Zele, Belgium still making them in 1980. This one is in very good condition, with the design better than average.

Comments: A Point de Gaze fan with Mother of Pearl (probably abalone) sticks, and pierced bone slips. The lace has no raised work and a few rings used as fillings for flowers. Condition looks very good on the lace; seller notes only one small hole near the top, and a cream color. One slip slightly broken.

Comments: An interesting plaited lace with an insertion above and scalloped border below. Not many closeups, but it does look like the lower border is ‘sewn’ in the bobbinlace sense to the top insertion. Seems to be a Cluny design, but could have been made in many places. It does have a kind of Italian feel with elements tracing back to Genoese plaited bobbinlace. Looks in very good condition. Seller says ~ 1.8 yards is separated into two pieces, not entirely sure what that means.

Offered by: Ebay seller annacottage, Newton, Connecticut, United States
Comments: A triangular Chantilly shawl with an elaborate design. Note the large ‘flower pot’ spray center back. Chantilly pieces this size are made from strips, and here they look like they go horizontally, parallel to the long upper edge. There are some racroc splits, and apparently one repair. One strip appears not to have any gimp, which is very unusual. There is damage to the ground in places, some unraveling, and a few holes. So I’ll call condition short of good.

Starting Price: $14.99
Auction ends: Apr 23, 2013 18:05:52 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller adtjmd, Newton, United States
Comments: An Irish Crochet dress front. Good condition, seller cites some age discoloration, a few light spots and occasional broken bride. This piece is a bit more complex than it first appears. Three different bride patterns, and note the unusual raised ‘bullion’ strip dividing the oval motifs in two. Not the most impressive design, but definitely worth some study.

Offered by: Ebay seller yellow_daisy, Carlisle, Massachusetts, United States
Comments: A Flemish bobbinlace border, rather Brabant looking with larger motifs and both 6-pointed star and picoted bride grounds. Mid 18th century. As with many Brabant piece, the design is a bit free – note there are areas that look like they are meant to form brides in the middle of the clothstitch, but sometimes not developed, and often not symmetric with other design elements. There looks like there’s some darning repair to some motifs. Overall good condition.

Starting Price: $85.00

Offered by: Ebay seller jaruk, Worcester, United Kingdom
Comments: A Valenciennes border, around 1730. Some might call this Binche, but we don’t know enough about the very small Binche industry at this time to distinguish their products from the far larger Valenciennes one. Val at this period experimented a lot with grounds, especially the ‘partridge eye’ as seen here. I would call the condition very good for something this age. There is one join very near one end, a minor issue.

Comments: Could be Flemish – note the passing of the ground threads behind the motifs. This is a typical Flemish technique. It is a tape lace derived from Milanese elements, and with two different fillings. The picoted border looks a bit strange, maybe added later? Very difficult to put a date on something like this, perhaps early 18th c. One ;midway join, some storage marks, and one mend. Looks in good condition.

Comments: A mid 18th century border of Mechlin. Might be later; the design doesn’t quite fill out the space like you might expect, and is a little plain. Like an original more elaborate pattern that was reused and weakened over time. The condition looks very good.

Comments: A handkerchief of Brussels bobbinlace application on machine net. o needlelace that I can spot. An elaborate design with small well-done motifs. Occasional pinhole, very minor. It does have a slightly washed look, with motifs not quite as crisp as they could be. Basically very good condition.
