The Avenir Museum, formerly the Historic Costume & Textiles Collection, is dedicated to exploring the aesthetic, social, cultural and physical significance of textiles, dress and interior furnishings. The upcoming exhibition will include many examples of lace from the Ruth Payne Hellmann collection of over 1400 pieces of lace in the museum’s permanent collection, as well as lace from private lenders.  The more fragile laces will be removed in January and replaced with garments and accessories to show the use of lace in historic and contemporary fashion.

There will be a special event on October 4, 2013 at 7:00 PM MST, “The Irish Lace Network”, presented by Irish lacemaker and author Mary Shields.  IOLI has given a grant in support of the exhibit and members will be given information on how to join a webcast of the lecture.
Mary will then lead a two-day workshop on Carrickmacross Lace on October 5-6, 2013 at the museum.

The contact for the exhibit, lecture and workshop is Megan Osborne, (970) 491-6648, Megan.Osborne@colostate.edu.  The workshop is limited to 20 people, contact Megan for registration.
