Famed Honiton Lacemaker, author and teacher Mrs. Patricia Beryl Perryman, chair of the Allhallows Museum has received the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s birthday honours list for 2013. She has been cited for services to the heritage of lace-making. She has been teaching lacemaking for over 40 years, and is the author of several works, including the 1984 “New Designs in Honiton Lace” with Cynthia Voysey. In 2009 Trevor Hitchcock published her biography, “A Honiton Lace Maker, The Pat Perryman Story”. There is also a beautiful article on her work at http://tinyurl.com/lwy3pkq. The lists were released on Monday, June 10th. The British Empire Medal is awarded for meritorious civil or military service worthy of recognition by the Crown. It was established in 1922 and awarded to subjects of the United Kingdom until 1992. It returned in June 2012 for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
