http://tinyurl.com/nom6owd large shaped piece antique irish crochet trim excellent raised work
Size: over 4″ deep, 58″ total length.
Starting Price: 10.00 GBP
Auction ends: Jun 28, 2013 07:03:30 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller reddolly123, Nottingham, United Kingdom
Comments:  Irish Crochet, perhaps a neckpiece, or maybe the border to some kind of linen. Quite an elaborate design, finely done with a lot of raised work. Picots look like Clones knots, but not enough closeups to tell for certain. Seller cites a few broken brides, and the inner border looks a little ragged. It also looks a rather wrinkled. Basically good condition.

Auction ends: Jun 29, 2013 10:07:33 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller amberfarleigh, Richmond, N. Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Comments:  A border of pieced Belgian bobbinlace, with Bruges Bloemwerk characteristics. But the specific motifs more resemble work done around Ghent. It’s a fairly wide piece for the type of lace with an interesting design of flowers, some in a lattice-type grid. An interesting piece.  Seller cites a few broken brides, overall good condition.

Size: 11.5″ square
Starting Price: $12.99
Auction ends: Jun 29, 2013 10:31:54 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller anelei, Miami, Florida, United States
Comments:  A whitework handkerchief with a lot of interesting drawnwork patterns. Quite a delicately worked piece. The fleur de lis could indicate a French origin, but it’s very hard to tell origin on this type of work. Seller cites one small water stain and one pinhole, minor, overall very good condition

http://tinyurl.com/pj9qdc8 VALENCIENNES BOBBIN LACE LAPPETS Ca 1700 PAT EARNSHAW COLLECTION
Size: 10 cm x 110 cm
Starting Price: $10.00 with reserve
Auction ends: Jun 29, 2013 15:00:01 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller eastayton, London, England, United Kingdom
Comments: Ex. coll. Pat Earnshaw, and illustrated in “The Identification of Lace”.  A set of Valenciennes lappets, joined at the tops.  Dates from around 1730. The grounds used are the oeil de perdrix (with tiny holes in the centers of the ovals) and fond de neige (no holes). A separate picot edge was added probably in the 19th c, a procedure often done to ‘liven up’ older laces. Can’t really tell the condition of the actual edge under this addition.  There also appears to be a slight cutback at the tops where the lappets are joined. There are three major design sections along the lengths of the lappets, and one indication of their high quality is that each contains a different pattern.
Some small holes from wear , but this is a minor consideration. Overall good condtion.

http://tinyurl.com/p9mh6je DANISH HEDEBO and GERMAN SCHWALM EMBROIDERY 19th CENTURY
Size: Hebedo 57 cm x 38 cm, Schwalm 34 cm x 26 cm
Starting Price: $10.00 with reserve
Auction ends: Jun 29, 2013 15:05:01 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller eastayton, London, England, United Kingdom
Comments: Samples of Hebedo (left) and Schwalm (right) embroidery. The post cites a writeup describing some technical differences between the two, but basically they are combination cut and drawnwork. Hebedo has some interesting needlelace fillings, with look like knotted stitches. The Schwalm piece appears to have been cut from something larger, the Hebedo seems intact. I’d call the Hebedo very good and the Schwalm good condition.

Starting Price: $10.00 with reserve
Auction ends: Jun 29, 2013 15:10:01 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller eastayton, London, England, United Kingdom
Comments: A large collar of Carrickmacross applique, with typical looped edge picots. The muslin applique and filling stitches are well done, and note the occasional shamrock motif. No guipure work at all; usually this shows up in applique pieces with small sections using a bride ground. The condition appears very good, I don’t see any problems from the photos.

Starting Price: $10.00 with reserve
Auction ends: Jun 29, 2013 15:10:01 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller eastayton, London, England, United Kingdom
Comments: Two lappets of ~3rd quarter 18th c Brussels bobbinlace with a 6-pointed star ground, like fond chant, very unusual. Joined at the top ends. Fairly simple undulating design with slight variations per repeat.  A few oeil de perdrix, but mostly uses fillings of rectangular picoted brides.  All this might indicate an English origin, but very hard to tell exactly. The outer picoted edge is a little worn in places and there are a few pulls in the ground.  I think I can also spot a few repairs; look near the join area and about a quarter of the way up from the lower end in the photo below. Overall good condition for something of this date.

Auction ends: Jun 29, 2013 15:20:01 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller eastayton, London, England, United Kingdom
Comments: I’ll say an early 17thc Flemish border, of the type that copied contemporary Milanese work but with a unique low countries perspective. It uses finer thread, and you can start to see how the motifs begin to break up into what will soon become the great Flemish pieced bobbinlaces. This one is nicely intact, especially on the long borders. Some weaknesses in the brides have caused a few holes, a little disrupting, but not too serious, and repairable. Overall good condition.

Comments: A Carrickmacross applique collar. Quite a sophisticated piece with well done needlerun fillings and crisp applique.  Typical looped picots around the edges. Note the needle-made rings used as esprits in the ground, you see the same in the Carrickmacross collar reviewed above. These two pieces are very similar in technique.  Very good condition, I don’t see any problems in the photos.

http://tinyurl.com/lc8llaj ENGLISH HONITON BOBBIN LACE SCARF and a COLLECTION OF 7 HONITON MOTIFS
Size: 9.5″ x 115″
Starting Price: $10.00 with reserve
Auction ends: Jun 29, 2013 15:30:01 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller eastayton, London, England, United Kingdom
Comments: A narrow scarf of Honiton Applique. The design is a bit of a mixture – snails/slugs flowers around the borders, and quite sophisticated individual flowers (note especially the lily of the valley sprays against 4 leaves) and figural motifs (insects) at the ends. These are well done, reminding me of motifs made by Mrs. Sharpe.  There is also a set of individual motifs mounted on black silk. I’m thinking these may have been cut from another piece given the large number of little loose threads around their borders.  The scarf has a few repairs to the net, overall good condition.

Starting Price: $10.00 with reserve
Auction ends: Jun 29, 2013 15:35:01 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller eastayton, London, England, United Kingdom
Comments: Muslin drawnwork, sometimes called Dresden work, although there isn’t any really easy way to tell where it comes from. Heather Toomer has a wonderful recent book on this type of embroidery, “Embroidered with White: The 18th Century Fashion for Dresden Lace and Other Whiteworked Accessories”.  The most interesting thing is the unfinished end giving some clue as to how this work was done. Looks like it was worked with two layers of fabric.  One part seems to be a border meant to go around a rectangular cloth, the second piece might be part of a cap – it is obviously cut around the edges, but the design seems to be intact. Overall very good condition for the age.

Comments: A chantilly fan with imitation tortoiseshell sticks.  Box is labeled “Alouise Van de Voorde”. Quite a romantic flower design.  Condition is an issue, there are ragged pieces above the guard sticks although the rest of the lace looks OK. 6 sticks are detached.  Condition is short of good.

Starting Price: 9.99 GBP
Auction ends: Jun 30, 2013 04:02:14 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller edelweiss1921, Goodwick, Wales, United Kingdom
Comments: Three lengths of Duchesse de Bruxelles with provenance. It was purchased from Arnold & Constable to wear on her wedding dress, so probably dates around 1900. Note the bobbinlace bow above the Point de Gaze inserts. Raised petal roses.  The lace looks a little wrinkled, maybe a sign of washing, but overall good condition.

Offered by: Ebay seller edelweiss1921, Goodwick, Wales, United Kingdom
Comments: The border in this lot is machine-made, the narrow collar is Carrickmacross applique, and the shawl collar is tamboured applique, usually a sign of Belgian work. One small hole and some pinpricks in the shawl collar, and a few pinpricks in the Carrickmacross. A few weak spots along edges. But basically good condition on both.
Seems to be a good week for Carrickmacross.

Comments: The Maltese silk round collar.  Good guipure work along the neckline, and I like the way the ‘wheat ears’ fan out above the Maltese crosses at the edge.  Seller states that the item has been cleaned, but gives no details on how. The lace itself looks in good condition.

Comments: The Brussels Duchesse handkerchief. Note the ‘snowflake’ of decorative ‘mode’ fillings in Point de Gaze at each corner.  Good design, well worked deep into the center cloth.  Looks in very good condition.

Offered by: Ebay seller laurengatsby, Boynton Beach, Florida, United States
Comments: A deep flounce of Brussels bobbinlace applique on machine net. A few simple needlelace fillings. A good rather architectural floral design, note the esprits in the ground. Not quite as elaborate as some crinoline flounces, but it’s getting there.  Does have a number of small holes in the ground, but not more than you normally see in a piece like this. Overall good condition.

Comments: A Duchesse de Bruxelles handkerchief. No raised work in the Point de Gaze inserts.  The bobbinlace is a bit on the Bruges side, fairly conventional design. Condition looks very good, and overall the piece has a nice presence.

Comments: Two cuffs and a matching neckpiece of Brussels Duchesse. Unusual to find a set like this. The Point de Gaze inserts don’t have any raised petals. Design is a little on the Duchesse de Bruges side, and nicely worked. Looks in very good condition – just a little yellowed if the photo colors are right.
