Comments: A lappet scarf of Maltese bobbinlace. Quite a dense pattern, flower roundels along the outer edge, and lines of Maltese crosses down the middle. Comments: A fan of Brussels bobbinlace application on machine net. There is an occasional needlelace ‘mode’ decorative filling. The center cartouche contains a painting, this is quite unusual for a later 19th century fan, but it appears to be original. That, with the pierced Mother of Pearl sticks makes the design resemble 18th c fans.  I don’t see any obvious damage to the lace, seller notes that one guard stick has a repair. Basically very good condition.

Comments: Wish there were closer closeups of this piece. I wouldn’t call it Irish Crochet according to a strict definition. There are crochet motifs with good raised work. But a lot of it looks like a tape lace, and whether the tape is crocheted or not, I can’t tell. The ‘tape’ parts seem to have needlelace fillings. the brides look like a lumpy cord attached to the motifs periodically. It is an interesting piece.  Condition is generally good, some minor spotting and some loose stitching.

Comments: A whitework embroidery handkerchief – lace collectors often include these because of the needlelace decorative elements. This one is unusual with cutwork elements filled with buttonholed brides. The result is an unusually bold presentation. It is bordered with a separated square-meshed Valenciennes edging – very common in pieces like this. A few pinholes in the main cloth, which actually counts a little more in a piece like this since the cloth cannot be replaced. But they are very minor. Basically very good condition.

Comments: A Honiton guipure handkerchief, snail/slugs esthetic. It also has a tape element arranged in an ‘X’ pattern just next to the center cloth. These do look hand done, although sometimes machine tapes similar to Honiton patterns were used.  The design does looks a little scattered, but with some symmetry. Motifs are nicely done, especially the roses. Basically very good condition, I don’t see any problems from the photos.

Comments: A wide flounce of Brussels application on machine net.  No raised work in the motifs, but they are quite finely done and really don’t need it.  Note the interesting needlelace picoted brides used as fillings, also the needlelace flower decorative stitches. Excellent technique, a short repeat, no extensive esprits in the ground, just one row of sprigs. Probably a late 19th century piece. Some pinholes and a few small openings, basically very good condition.

Comments: A Brussels Duchesse fan leaf. Raised petal roses in the Point de Gaze inserts.  Good raised work in the bobbinlace motifs. A typical Duchesse design, symmetric and rather crowded.  Seller has washed the piece.  It looks in basically very good condition, there is one spot near the upper left corner in the photo where some zigzag filling stitches are missing – almost looks original.

Comments: A deep collar of silk Maltese, of three parts.  the outer edge is alternating Maltese crosses and flowers. The inner edge is a vertical ‘wheat ear’ design. Mid section is a mass of woven leaves with Maltese cross roundels.  A good example of a typical design arrangement.  Basically very good condition, just looks a slightly wrinkled.
