OK, on that last post, which is the presentation I gave at Brookhaven National Lab on June 20th. I put this up to give access to the “Lace and Science” discussion group, which is just getting started – it’s all part of the difficulties of working with ning.com. Hence the password protection. If you have scientific leanings (physical sciences, social sciences, textile curator, economist, mathematician, things like that), and you want to have some serious, critical discussions about applying your skills to the lace textile field, then send me a note to lacenews@gmail.com and I’ll send you an invitation to the forum. Right now we are talking about carbon dating. Or at least just getting started on the discussion.
Laurie
Dear Laurie,
I am an independent collector and restorer of textiles, which includes, vintage clothing, linen and antique lace. I have exhibited in France on three different occasions, Cabourg et Caen, OIDFA. I have not sold on the Internet, but am part of the Amherst, NY lace guild, and will show at Ithaca.
I am a curator of sorts with degrees in music. I organized a six month show at Niagara University, Castellani Gallery in 2012. THe topic was Lace, Remaking Lace. the focus of the exhibit was Irish lace giving the history of the lace as a famine industry. I worked with the curator, Carrie Hertz, PH.D., Indiana University.
Sincerely, Mary A. Carroll
