This is the Catalonian Lace Association annual lace day, no doubt the largest lacemaking event in the world. It is held in a different city each year.  The original date scheduled was May 25th, but that was changed so as not to conflict with European elections. No non-laces allowed (cross stich, patchwork, crochet, etc.)  Lacemakers are requested to come with their best work in progress.
The local lace group will also sponsored a potential Guinness World Record submission for the longest lace ever made – the pattern will be provided by email to interested participants by May 20th. I’m not entirely sure how this work will proceed.

Events include the lacemaking demonstrations (to be cancelled in case of rain), a permanent exhibition of bobbinlace, awards for the youngest and oldest lacemaker, and a lace workshop for children.
Other local visits are possible including one to the Montsacopa volcano.

  1. lacenews says:

The record was won with a lace 969 meters long and 6 cm wide, worked on by over 1800 lacemakers. Of course no one had ever done this before, so the record was pretty much assured. More than 5,000 people attended the meeting.
