http://tinyurl.com/m9mgols Honiton Guipure lace Bertha collar unusual ‘leadworks’ ground Mid 19th century
Size: 33″ neckline, 7″ deep.
Starting Price: 4.99 GBP
Auction ends: April 19, 2015 9:24 AM PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller rozshopping, Plymouth, United Kingdom
Comments: A Honiton guipure bertha. Snails/slugs style, quite open with extensive leadworks.  Note the ground which are also woven tallies arranged into a square mesh. I’ve seen this before, but it is quite rare, at least in the S/S style.  You find it more in shops like Treadwin. Interesting piece.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None
Damage: Little frayed in places.
Soilage: Looks clean, but a little hard to tell from photos.
Finish: Wrinkled, general wear.

381224006482   Sold for 57.00 GBP, 10 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/qdln4wn A delightful Maltese Lace Circular Table Cloth
Size: 100 cm diameter.
Starting Price: 4.99 GBP
Auction ends: April 19, 2015 9:25 AM PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller winterwonderlandfairy, london, United Kingdom
Comments: A circular Maltese tablecloth of about 8 concentric rings. Slightly blocky guipure work, and some masses of woven leaf grids.  The ground is unusual, looking in “Gozo Lace” by Azzopardi, I find a ‘punt ingliż’ (English stitch), which looks pretty similar.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: Some wrinkling, looks slightly worn.

http://tinyurl.com/nbchp9d 5 yards antique/vintage early 19C fine Brussels applique lace
Size: 5 yards long, no width given.
Starting Price: 85.00 GBP
Auction ends: April 19, 2015 10:59 AM PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller derbeatle, Cheltenham, United Kingdom
Comments: A border of Brussels bobbinlace applique on droschel ground. It looks like the droschel strips run vertically.  Well done flower sprays along the lower edge, no esprits in the ground.  Good, elegant design.
Provenance:  Drouot auction, Paris.
Modifications:  Cut one end, can’t see the other end. Engrelure added.
Damage:  A few pinholes in the mesh especially near the engrelure.  I see two pulls in the ground, or they might be repairs.  It’s a long border, not too many photos.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

331528602757   Sold for 188.99 GBP, 3 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/ks6hqrz 49 ins antique/vintage 19C needle lace from France
Size: 49″ x 7″
Starting Price: 60.00 GBP
Auction ends: April 19, 2015 11:17 AM PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller derbeatle, Cheltenham, United Kingdom
Comments: A Venise border, raised work is a 19th C imitation of Gros Point. I think it’s a Belgian piece because of the overlapping rings in some flower centers – this is a Point de Gaze technique. Note the elaborate decorated clothwork, and excellent technique.
Provenance:  Drouot auction, Paris.
Modifications:  Cut one end, can’t see the other end.
Damage:  None.
Soilage: Looks clean, comes across slightly beige in the photos.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

231530426568   Sold for 60.00 GBP, 1 bidder.

http://tinyurl.com/lleanky Large handmade Point de Gaze needle lace collar. 19th C.
Size: 30″ neckline. Depth 3″ to 4.25″.
Starting Price: $37.00
Auction ends: April 19, 2015 12:09 PM PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller lacemerchant, Whiting, Indiana, United States
Comments: A Point de Gaze collar with raised petal roses.  Some simple decorative ‘mode’ fillings.  A little conventional in design, although it works well for the form.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None
Damage: Many small holes in the mesh.
Soilage: Looks clean, maybe a little beige? Hard to tell from the photos.
Finish: Vertical fold creases.

131485208510   Sold for $62.90, 4 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/ky2ks7x Collection Antique Victorian Honiton Lace Motifs
Size: largest 6.5″ x 3.5″, smaller ~2″ tall.
Starting Price: 22.00 GBP
Auction ends: April 19, 2015 12:20 PM PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller pbur3053, Selkirk, United Kingdom
Comments: A collection of unmounted Honiton motifs – they are meant for applique on machine net.  The beige one is a more Snails/Slugs flower, the rest are more advanced done with excellent technique.  Note the little connections between elements – these were probably removed in the applique process.  You’d be surprised how many of these motifs survive.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None
Damage:  None.
Soilage: Some faint spotting.  One flower beige in color.
Finish: Fold creases.  Looks like the original blue paper.

Comments: A fan of Brussels bobbinlace applique on machine net. Mother of pearl sticks. Quite an elegant design of flower and leaves, with some wonderful butterflies. I especially like the delicate border. This all work very well for a fan.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None
Damage:  None.
Soilage: A few brown spots, especially along the sticks.
Finish: Expected fan creases.

Starting Price: $16.00
Auction ends: April 20, 2015 4:10 AM PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller n1cestar, Roma, RM, Italy
Comments: A guipure bobbinlace collar, might be Le Puy. The designs tightly woven, with a ground that you sometimes see in Le Puy.  The border appears to be made in one piece with the center.  Might possibly be an Italian piece, but I’m not familiar with any lace like this from an Italian manufacturer.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None
Damage:  Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

Starting Price: 20.00 GBP
Auction ends: April 20, 2015 10:50 AM PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller derbeatle, Cheltenham, United Kingdom
Comments: A narrow Maltese scarf. Alternating crosses and flowers, note the motif at the ends which looks like the English rose pattern sometimes seen in this lace. Seller notes the feel of the piece might imply a different thread than the usual silk.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

Comments: A collar or bertha of muslin applique on machine net. The edges of the motifs appear to be chain stitched onto the tulle, which is a characteristic of Belgian work.  Good elegant design, excellent technique.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None
Damage:  A few pinholes and small pulls in the mesh.
Soilage: Scattered localized brown spots.  Seller cites ivory color.
Finish: Slight wrinkling.

Offered by: Ebay seller greatlace, Palm Beach, Florida, United States
Comments: Point de Paris border – I have a piece of this in my own collection. Made in Belgium according to the tag – probably a WWI piece. I could never quite figure out the design – seems to be a crown, maybe flanked by swords? Some interesting fillings including point ground, and one that looks like a snowflake.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None
Damage:  Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: Vertical fold creases.

Comments: Two bertha collars of Carrickmacross applique by the same seller. Needlerun fillings, and note the needle-made twisted bars used as fillings in the first one. The second one appears to have a little more interesting fillings. Typical looped picots on both.  Nice designs
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None
Damage:  Some pinholes and small holes in the mesh on both. Neckline frayed in the first one.
Soilage: Localized brown spots on both.

Offered by: Ebay seller lacemerchant, Whiting, Indiana, United States
Comments: A wide flounce of Brussels bobbinlace applique on machine net. Quite an elegant floral design, no esprits in the ground. Delicately done needlelace fillings  Beautiful technique – I’m thinking this might be a later 19th c piece. It’s not quite as complex as mid 19th c 2nd Empire crinoline flounces.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  Can’t see the ends to tell if they are cut.
Damage:  Some holes and pinholes in the tulle. Some well done repairs in the tulle.
Soilage: A few stains.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

Offered by: Ebay seller pacapam03, Western Victoria, Australia
Comments: An Irish Crochet frontpiece with long lappet ends.  The very tightly worked motifs, the Clones knot variation, some padded raised work – these are characteristic of French work. The juxtaposition of the lower part of the bib with the Rose of Sharon pattern above is a bit jarring.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

Comments: A Chantilly lappet scarf or tie. Fairly simple design, no ombre, no fillings.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None.
Damage: A mysterious spot of black threads just above the flower and leaf at the right end.
Soilage: Looks clean, but hard to tell with black lace.

Comments: An Irish Crochet frontpiece. Fine technique, and the narrow leaves and petals remind me of French work.  But the tripartite motifs are more Irish. Roughly square picoted mesh.  Very nice presence to this piece.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.

Offered by: Ebay seller lacemerchant, Whiting, Indiana, United States
Comments: An Italian or Eastern European tape lace, obvious religious symbolism. I agree with the seller, the looser work might indicate Eastern European origin.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  One end cut, can’t see the other end.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: Looks a little worn, slight wrinkling.

Comments: A Point de Gaze handkerchief, no raised work. Some nicely done decorative ‘mode’ fillings, although a little small in scale. Dense floral design, excellent technique. A higher end market piece.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None, although I wonder if the center cloth is an old replacement.
Damage: Small holes in the center of the cloth. Lace looks good.
Soilage: Lace is a little beige in color, cloth whiter.  Some very small brown stains in both the cloth and lace.
Finish: Horizontal and vertical fold creases.

Comments: A Honiton Point fallcap, meaning Honiton motifs with a needle-made ground. Rose and thistle design, with one butterfly. The overall design is a little scattered, but the technique is well advanced from the snails/slugs style. Beautifully worked roses, and note the extensive ’10-stick’ raised edges on the leaves.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None.
Damage: Small holes in the center of the cloth. Lace looks good.
Soilage: Seller cites slightly darkened mid cream color.
Finish: Fold crease down the center of the cap.

Damage: A few broken brides. Seller cites small repairs which I can’t find. PtdG mesh looks good. Almost too good…
Soilage: Seller cites soft old white color.
