Comments: It’s a little unusual to see bobbinlace butterflies, and this is a nice set of three.  I’ll call them Cluny style, although it’s difficult to make an exact attribution.  I particularly like the smallest one – it looks like an ephemeral moth.

Comments: A Brussels Duchesse handkerchief – no raised work in the Point de Gaze inserts.  There is some raised work on halfstitch background in the scrollwork.  Conventional motifs, nicely arranged.  I like the inner edge treatment.

Auction ends: December 20, 2015, 2015, 13:43 PM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller rcfavorites, Taylors, South Carolina, United States
Comments: An Irish Crochet dress front. Looks like all but the last photo have been taken of the back side.  Note the square mesh with Clones knots used as picots. There’s a right-left symmetry to the design, and the motifs are tightly worked and interesting in design (even from the back side). Overall design is a little scattered.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: 4th quarter 19th c.
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: A few broken brides lower center front.
Soilage: Seller cites ecru color.

Size: 21″ diameter, 25″ long.
Starting Price: $299.00 Buy-it-Now or Make Offer
Auction ends: December 21, 2015, 2015, 7:02 AM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller chantillydreams, Bloomington, Indiana, United States
Comments: An black silk guipure parasol with wood handle. It has more of a Maltese than a Beds look, and further, more of a Spanish than Maltese look.  So I’m not sure where this is coming from, but I’m leaning toward Spain. It is a little thin for Maltese, but it is a possibility. It’s a small, delicate object that has survived well. One interesting thing is the spiral in the lace at the finial – you can see one trail leading off into the main design.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: 4th quarter 19th c.
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks clean but hard to tell with black lace.
Finish: Expected parasol folds.

http://tinyurl.com/qanknm9 93 ins antique/vintage early 19th c Alencon needle lace
Size: 3.5″ x (60″ and 33″)
Starting Price: £20.00
Auction ends: December 21, 2015, 2015, 9:52 AM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller derbeatle, Cheltenham, United Kingdom
Comments: Two pieces of the same borders of early 19th c Alençon with what looks to be réseau fin. The openness of some of the toilé marks this as a slightly later piece than the more usual Herren Alençon of the late 18th c.  But it retains the very small repeat and rows of carefully done esprits.  No decorative ‘mode’ fillings, but a few variations in the standard toilé. Note, the horsehair appears to have been taken out of the picots.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: 1st quarter 19th c.
Condition:
Modifications: Cut all ends. Engrelure added.
Damage: Quite a few carefully done repairs.  Small holes and pinholes throughout.
Soilage: Seller cites age darkened ecru.
Finish: No obvious creases or winkles, but it is a bit worn.

231783917129   Sold for £20.00, 1 bidder.

Starting Price: Au $175.00 Buy-it-Now
Auction ends: December 22, 2015, 2015, 6:00 AM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller pams_linen, Western Victoria, Australia
Comments: A dress front of Irish Crochet.  Rose of Sharon pattern on top, with an elaborate large motif arrangement on the bottom. The work has a French feeling, with the heavy looped Clones Knots decorating the lower square mesh.  Good raised work, tight technique.  I think the overall design doesn’t come off too well with the light top and heavy bottom – that’s sometimes the case with the French version of IC.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: ~1900
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photographs.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: No obvious creases or winkles.

Auction ends: December 22, 2015, 2015, 6:00 AM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller textiles2012, Hydes, Maryland, United States
Comments: Two pieces of the same Point de Gaze border. No raised work in the roses, and no elaborate decorative ‘mode’ fillings. Just a single ring in motif centers.  The design is quite delicate, and note the looped picots along the lower border. Sign of a better manufacturer.
The seller is also listing two small Point de Gaze collars  #262193370626, with the same looped picot border on one of them.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: ~1900
Condition:

Offered by: Ebay seller mithya, New York, United States
Comments: A long border of Mechlin. Note the use of half-stitch shading, which is a later 19th c feature.  Delicate design of flowers, and some nice woven esprits used as fillings.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: 2nd half 19th c.
Condition:
Modifications: Two well-done joins. Can’t see the ends to tell if they are cut.
Damage: Seller cites a few tiny repairs near the foot edge.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: Vertical fold creases, some light irregular creases.

Starting Price: $19.99
Auction ends: December 23, 2015, 2015, 3:41 AM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller mithya, New York, United States
Comments: An interesting Embroidered net square, perhaps an apron or hat veil. It looks needlerun, but photos aren’t close enough to really tell (seller says it is tambour). Quite an elaborate design with heavy lower border, and small esprits used as esprits.  Wish there a photo of the hole thing laid flat, it’s hard to tell the exact design.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: 2nd half 19th c.
Condition:
Modifications: None, I think.
Damage: Seller cites a few minor openings.
Soilage: Looks clean, but hard to tell with black lace.
Finish: Overall wrinkling.

Starting Price: $795.00
Auction ends: December 23, 2015, 2015, 3:48 AM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller mithya, New York, United States
Comments: A long, wide border of Brussels bobbin and needlelace applique on machine net. Some small needle-made rings and knots used as fillings. Esprits in the main ground are fairly large sprigs.  The small flowers are needlelace. The piece has a clean naturalistic design.  Not quite romantic enough for a Crinoline flounce as conventionally defined.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: 4th quarter 19th c.
Condition:
Modifications: One seam.  One end cut, can’t see the other end.
Damage: A few pinholes and pulls in the tulle.
Soilage: Looks clean.

Starting Price: $495.00
Auction ends: December 23, 2015, 2015, 3:53 AM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller mithya, New York, United States
Comments: A rectangular shawl of Brussels bobbinlace applique on machine net. Needle-made grids of rings and knots used as fillings. Romantic flowers, with quite a bit of ribbon and swag work. Dotted esprit ground interspersed with small leaf sprigs. The technique is a bit conventional.  It’s not the highest end product, but a good example of something aimed more at the upper middle market.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: 4th quarter 19th c.
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: A few small holes and pinholes in the tulle.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: Light creasing.

Comments: An early 18th c Mechlin with snowflake ground. This doesn’t come up often.  Note the typical rather blocky motifs with very little decoration in the clothstitch. It’s plain and fancy at the same time.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: ~1740
Condition:
Modifications: Cut both ends with folded finishes. One join.
Damage:  A bit worn, but not bad. Slightly frayed upper and lower edges. A few tiny holes, seller cites one repair.
