Comments: A small collar of Carrickmacross applique on machine net.   Ring picots along the outside edges, and note the spiky picots in the outer sections of guipure.  Good needlerun fillings of two patterns.  Well organized design including lots of shamrocks.  Nice presence to this piece.

Starting Price: £55.00
Auction ends: January 3, 2016, 11:33 AM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller derbeatle, Cheltenham, United Kingdom
Comments: A collar with lappet points of Brussels Duchesse. Raised petal roses in the Point de Gaze inserts.  Note the diamond windows in the raised petals, sign of a better manufacturer.  Some raised work in the bobbinlace strapwork against halfstitch ground. Quite an elaborate romantic floral design, well made and presented.  Runs the risk of being a little crowded, but I think it comes off quite well.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: 4th quarter 19th c.
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos. PtdG mesh looks good.
Soilage: Seller cites ivory color.
Finish: One light crease center back, minor.

http://tinyurl.com/npw9ejb COLLECTION OF LACE MAKING PRICKINGS (5 PIECES) SET 3
Size: collar/cuff 8″, mat 19″, similar wider mat 19″. 2 edgings ~14-16″
Starting Price: £8.00
Auction ends: January 4, 2016, 7:42 AM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller botanicalady, Bridgewater, Somerset, United Kingdom
Comments: A small collection of English bobbinlace prickings. Note the seller has two more lots for sale, #291648323205 and #291648322790.  The appear to be English Beds and Torchon. They seem to be prickings done from another template – there are no lines drawn on the patterns.  Note the scraps of cloth sewn onto the ends, you often see this in English Beds prickings. I’m not entirely sure how these extension were used, except to think they were the attachment points on the pillow. Rather than pinning directly through the pattern paper.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: ~1900
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: Slight wear.
Soilage: Look clean.
Finish: Paper a little wrinkled, minor. Cloth wrinkled.

http://tinyurl.com/hhdy8gt Antique/vintage Bedfordshire lace collar
Size: 19″ neckline, 8″ back depth.
Starting Price: £55.00
Auction ends: January 4, 2016, 10:38 AM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller derbeatle, Cheltenham, United Kingdom
Comments: A deep collar of floral Beds. The design is a bit unusual, but it is a large piece which is also unusual. Note the raised leaf tallies on halfstitch ground.  I found an image of a medallion in the Bucks Cottage Worker’s Agency catalog (c. 1900), which has a lot of similar features, like the little mats done where brides meet. The catalog does say that piece is linen.  I can’t tell the thread type from the Ebay listing photos, but I wouldn’t rule it out at this point.  You can also see the same flowers in other photos in the catalog, although I’m not sure the raised work matches.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: ~1900
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: None obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Seller cites mid ivory color  A little discoloration to the back neckline.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

Starting Price: $9.00 plus reserve
Auction ends: January 4, 2016, 12:44 PM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller jamiexmas*, Southbridge, Massachusetts, United States
Comments: A white silk Catalonian blonde rectangular shawl or mantilla. The large, plain motifs with the 6-pointed star fillings are typical of Spanish work. Note also the half-stitch used as shading accents, but sparingly.  White blonde was used more for formal wear in Spain, most pieces like this are black.
Provenance: Central New England estate.
Date: 4th quarter 19th c.
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: None obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: Vertical and horizontal fold creaess.

http://tinyurl.com/hy94a4o Point de Paris long handmade bobbin lace lappets Probably circa 1800 BRIDE
Size:
~3.5″ x 31″ each
Starting Price: $165.00
Auction ends: January 4, 2016, 1:43 PM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller lacemerchant, Whiting, Indiana, United States
Comments: A pair of lappets, probably around 1800.  The unusual fond chant ground is used even as a filling.  The motifs are quite fine, and similar things are seen in Lille, Mechlin, and both square and round hole Valenciennes of this period. There is a gimp around the motifs, so this could be a variation of Mechlin.  You do occasionally see it used earlier in what looks like Mechlin, and they did experiment with grounds. Although this is a bit late for experimentation.
The fond chant does show up in many laces outside of Point de Paris, often in combination point ground. We can’t assume all of it is some kind of English kat stitch variation. The subject is not well investigated.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: ~1800
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: A little frayed in spots along the picot edge. A few broken threads in the ground.
Soilage: Seller cites mid ivory white color.  Looks clean.
Finish: Slight wrinkling.

Starting Price: $12.00
Auction ends: January 4, 2016, 7:16 PM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller kzfisch, Brielle, New Jersey, United States
Comments: A collection of Ñanduti doilies. Only the large one and one small one have the typical palm leaves around the edges, but the elaborate treatment of the centers of all is unmistakably Ñanduti.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: mid 20th c.
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Seller cites age spotting and uneven age-related yellowing. Some are darker in color.

http://tinyurl.com/hjcapd5 EXQUISITE HAND MADE GROS POINT DE VENISE LACE COLLAR BODICE FRONT & CUFF SET
Size:
cuffs: 3″ x 9.5″, collar: 2″ x 15.5″, insert: 6″ x 14″
Starting Price: $9.00 with reserve
Auction ends: January 5, 2016, 9:33 AM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller jamiexmas*, Southbridge, Massachusetts, United States
Comments: A Gros Point style matching set of triangular dress ornament, matching choker and cuffs.  Such sets don’t appear until later in the 19th c, and there are no signs of reassembly in this set. From the edge ornamentation which strongly resembles Point de Neige edges, I’m thinking this is Italian.  Excellent clothwork and ornamentation, although the raised edges are a bit too small to really lend themselves to elaborate contouring.
Provenance: Note attached says “Mrs C D Armstrong” (I’m having trouble making out the initials).
Date: Later 19th c.
Condition:
Modifications: None. Mounted on blue paper. I think it’s paper.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

Size:
7.25″ x 106″
Starting Price: $9.00 with reserve
Auction ends: January 5, 2016, 9:40 AM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller jamiexmas*, Southbridge, Massachusetts, United States
Comments: Valenciennes de Gand border.  This type of lace was first patented in 1852 by Sr.Marie Joseph,  Virginie Vranken, the director of the lace school for orphans in Ghent.  It does appear to have been made by other manufacturers later in the century. It is a pieced lace with an unusual ground formed of three threads.  The motifs were made almost in bulk and combined into various designs.  The end effect can be quite impressive.
In this example, the raised work in the bobbinlace is unusual and probably indicates a later date. The snowflake fillings are also quite unusual.
Provenance: Museum deaccession.
Date: 4th quarter 19th c.
Condition:
Modifications: Mounted on blue paper. Cut one end, can’t see the other end.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: Vertical fold creases.

Comments: A long border of Burano needlelace. Very typical design of large flowerhead combined with scrolling leaves. Note also the typical snowflake fillings.

Starting Price: $9.00 with reserve
Auction ends: January 5, 2016, 9:48 AM PST
Offered by: Ebay seller jamiexmas*, Southbridge, Massachusetts, United States
Comments: A deep collar of Venise – I think it might be a Belgian piece.  The overlapping rings seen in flower centers recall Point de Gaze work.  And the clothwork is not tight, it has the open probably double twist that also gives a more open Point de Gaze effect.  I can’t see how loosely the cordonnet is buttonholed, which would also be a clue.
Then again, it could be Irish or French or Italian.
Provenance: Museum deaccession. Note attached says “Mrs. C. D. Armstrong”.
Date: 4th quarter 19th c.
Condition:
Modifications: Attached to blue paper.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.

Comments: A triangular dress insert of Brussels Duchesse. This is quite an elaborate piece, with a series of decreasing sized raised petal roses (no ground) at the pointed end.  There’s an elaborate medallion of needlelace with decorative ‘mode’ stitches near the top. Note how the picots are connected along the edge of the central medallion, imitating the horsehair effect of Alençon. This is a higher end market piece.

Comments: A border of Brussels bobbinlace applique on droschel ground. Fillings in the flowers are bobbin-made, but I’ve never seen a design this fine in English work. So I’m going with Belgium.  The thin trailing design seems more applicable to early 19th c. work.

Condition:
Modifications: Cut both ends, engrelure added.
Damage: Small holes and pinholes in the mesh and along upper border.

Comments: A narrow collar of Irish Crochet.  Interesting design of Rose of Sharon pattern with embedded larger motifs along the outer edge. Good raised work in all the rose elements. Very dense square mesh, I think the picots are small crocheted loops.

Comments: A long border of Brussels bobbinlace applique on machine net. Needle-made rings used as fillings, and there’s a little raised veining in the bobbinlace leaves. Overall I find this quite an elegant design with a short repeat. No esprits in the upper ground.

Comments: A long border of Brussels bobbin and needlelace applique on machine net.  The needlelace is worked in an interesting architectural motif along the lower edge.  Finely worked bobbinlace is confined largely to florals. Esprits in the upper ground.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: 2nd half 19th c.

Comments: A Point de Gaze fan with Mother of Pearl sticks. Multiple raised petals on the roses, and note the diamond ‘windows’ in the petals. Fairly simple decorative ‘mode’ fillings, and note the interesting decoration on the rose petals – looks like the mesh might have been embroidered.  Romantic floral design, very well done.
