http://tinyurl.com/gwknobl 18th C. single handmade Valenciennes bobbin lace lappet with added top COLLECT
Size: Not given.
Starting Price: $235.00
Auction ends: July 3, 2016, 8:49 AM PDT.
Offered by: Ebay seller lacemerchant, Whiting, Indiana, United States
Comments: A round-hole Valenciennes ‘lappet’. This is a assembled, modified piece.  The symmetry of the ‘lappet’ part probably means it started out as a normal lappet. But the round end has been cut and finished with what may be parts of the original piece. The top is cut in a zigzag pattern and an unrelated but contemporary border, matched on the long sides, attached.  This is all high quality work both in design and technique, a excellent example of the plain line-drawing technique.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: 3rd quarter 18th c.
Condition:
Modifications: Two pieces modified and assembled together.
Damage: Occasional pinhole, minor.
Soilage: Some light brown spotting.
Finish: Slight creasing.

Comments: Three silk Maltese round collars with the same 4-ring construction. Outer is Maltese crosses alternating with ovals of woven leaf mats. Next is a complex woven leaf ground with Maltese cross medallions (moare like 4 leaves in the 3rd one). This extends down the ends in the 1st piece, while the other two have a different border at the ends.

Comments: A pair of Honiton guipure scarf ends (looks like the photographs are taken from the back side). Snails/slugs style. Turkey tail motifs at the bottoms, and there’s a motif called the ‘queen’s shell’ to the lower left of the center rose in the left motif.  To the right of the rose is the ‘frying pan’ motif.  There’s a wonderful book, “Honiton Patterns, Old Traditional with locally known Trade Names”, by Lillie Trivett and Carol McFadzean, with names, pictures and prickings of many motifs.

Comments: A Beds border.  Note the trails with woven tallies as decoration. the gimp in inside the motifs, typical of this lace.  Interesting picoted brides with ‘islands’ in the upper ground.  You don’t often see this length in a border like this.

Comments: A Brussels Duchesse skirt panel. Quite an elaborate Second Empire design, very dense.  There’s a little raised work on halfstitch ground in the strapwork at the bottom. Just above this there’s a line of decorative ‘mode’ needlelace fillings.

Size: 16 long, 43″ around outside edge (I think).
Starting Price: $375.99
Auction ends: July 6, 2016, 7:16 PM PDT.
Offered by: Ebay seller orel126, Somerville, New Jersey, United States
Comments: A triangular dress insert of Brussels Duchesse with attached choker collar that matches well. The large Point de Gaze insert has no raised work. It does have an elaborate center decorative ‘mode’ filling with smaller fillings in a line to the sides. The same quality of work is echoed in the needlelace woven pinwheel fillings in the choker.  Lots of raised work on halfstitch background in the bobbinlace swags, and it all blends in well with the needlelace.  Quite a large piece for the form.  Good technique, and athe design, while a little dense, goes together well.
Provenance: None cited.
Date: 4th quarter 19th century.
Condition:
Modifications: The collar is sewn on separately, you can see where the buds overlap along the lower neckline edge.
Damage: A few pinholes in the PdG mesh.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

Comments: Irish Crochet collar with rectangular picoted mesh. Thje picots look like crocheted loops. There’s a lot of raised work, and note the unusual spiral terminations on the ‘pinwheel designs.  As for design, it looks a bit ‘thrown together’, and some of the clothwork is a little loose.

Offered by: Ebay seller orel126, Somerville, New Jersey, United States
Comments: An Irish Crochet dress front, I think it might be a French piece. Note the very clean lines and the heavy Clones knots used as picots. This is combined with a more conventional square picoted mesh, and there is no looped edging on the outside – unusual.  The motifs are arranged in trefoils, which points more toward Irish origin. Nicely made piece.

Comments: A mantilla of ‘pale gold’ silk Maltese. Quite an elaborate design – a line of guipure leaves around the outer border. Inside is a ‘patchwork’ leaves and circles.  Next comes more guipure, then a central Maltese cross.  Excellent, tight work.
