It appears that this event was moved to Concello de Bergondo in 2014 from their traditional site at the sports palace in the city of A Coruña – it’s a little confusing.  A Coruña is also a province in Galicia. There had been five of them at the previous site. and this is the 2nd at the new site.  I believe it attracts a variety of textile artisans, including of course, the lacemakers of this area.

Ebay Alerts! Twenty-six items – December 14, 2014

http://tinyurl.com/mbony5g ANTIQUE LACE HANDMADE IRISH CROCHET FALLCAP
Size: cap – 10″, ends 3.5″ x 36″
Starting Price: $40.00
Auction ends: Dec 14, 2014, 11:21 AM, PST
Offered by: Ebay seller greatlace, Palm Beach, Florida, United States
Comments: An Irish Crochet fallcap.  Meandering design resembling some of the earlier ‘imitation guipure’ patterns in Irish Crochet. There is a little bit of a discontinuity in design down the center of the cap portion, but it all looks original.  This is Irish Crochet used as an actual textile, which I find very interesting.
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: None
Damage: One broken edge along one lappet.
Soilage: Looks clean
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

221631192271   Sold for $41.00, 2 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/n6uw3w8 ANTIQUE LACE GOOD LENGTH OF HANDMADE KNOTTED MEDITERRANEAN LACE
Size: 1-1/8″ x 120″
Starting Price: $20.00
Auction ends: Dec 14, 2014, 11:35 AM, PST
Offered by: Ebay seller greatlace, Palm Beach, Florida, United States
Comments: This looks like a border of Tunisian Chebka lace http://tinyurl.com/7hun6q7 although it’s a little more complex than usual. This is one of the Mediterranean knotted laces, and this particular type was often marketed in France.
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: Cut one end, not sure about the other.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks clean
Finish: Vertical fold creases.

221631205276  Sold for $20.50, 2 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/m9xzmkb Small bundle antique/vintage silk lace
Size: Not given.
Starting Price: 8.00 GBP
Auction ends: Dec 14, 2014, 12:05 PM, PST
Offered by: Ebay seller greatlace, Palm Beach, Florida, United States
Comments: These really look like Beds, but made in silk which is unusual.  Another unusual thing is the motif which looks like a cuff, but the same motif is chained together in a circle.  The smaller pieces probably are meant for the ends of a narrow scarf.
So I’ll go with English Beds, but wonder if anyone has another interpretation?
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: Slight wrinkling, a few edge loops are a little twisted.

231414680901   Sold for 21.50 GBP, 3 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/nbag8u4 Late 19th Century Antique Hand Made Crochet Irish Lace Dress Collar
Size: 34″ neckline
Starting Price: $29.99
Auction ends: Dec 14, 2014, 1:25 PM, PST
Offered by: Ebay seller golden-flower, Redford, Michigan, United States
Comments: An elaborate Irish Crochet collar, I think it’s French work from the type of ornamentation.  Clones knots n the ground, and note the tightly worked motifs and the elaborately raised layers in the center rose. The narrow segments of the leaves are also typically French techniques.  I do find the design a bit confused.
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: One broken motif near the end of one tip. A little weakness at the end of the other tip where the stem meets the large flower.
Soilage: Ivory color.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkling.

201236578813   Sold for $31.00, 2 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/q4zwxf7 ANTIQUE VINTAGE HANDMADE HONITON LACE COLLAR + HONITON LACE DRESS TRIM
Size: collar: 46 cm neckline, 9 cm deep.  cuff: 26 cm x 9 cm.
Starting Price: 4.99 GBP
Auction ends: Dec 14, 2014, 1:41 PM, PST
Offered by: Ebay seller caitlinlanevintage, Merriott, Somerset, United Kingdom
Comments: A collar and what appears to be a single cuff of Honiton. They don’t match. Snails/slugs style with good woven tally leadworks in flower centers.  The collar has plaited picoted brides, the cuff has a needle-made ground. Good tight work in the motifs.
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: None, but there’s no complete photo of the cuff so hard to tell. Machine-made engrelure added to the collar neckline.
Damage: One broken area in a filling.
Soilage: Cream color.
Finish: Vertical fold and other creases.

191437254778   Sold for 51.00 GBP, 5 bidders.

Starting Price: $50.00
Auction ends: Dec 14, 2014, 4:21 PM, PST
Offered by: Ebay seller textilemagic, Washington, District of Columbia, United States
Comments: A triangular shawl of Ñanduti from Paraguay.  Photos are a bit unclear, but it does have the palm leaf border and elaborate ground between motifs which is typical of this lace. I see three different Sol motifs, and there are probably more variety.
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: Difficult to tell from the photos, but seller thinks it might be unused.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: Seems to have some fold creases.

Starting Price: $36.00 Buy-it-Now
Auction ends: Dec 14, 2014, 7:52 PM, PST
Offered by: Ebay seller twist-in-time, Keller, Texas, United States
Comments: A flower spray of Honiton, probably meant for applique on machine net. They come up for sale more than you might think.  Note the little threads connecting parts of the design so that it keeps its shape.  Lovely piece, well worked, with a a main rose and several other flowers. Definitely breaking out of the snails/slugs mode.
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Seller cites ‘overall light patina’.
Finish: A little curling at various points. The attached tag isn’t doing it an good.

Comments: A border of Bruges Bloemwerk. Typical rose and leaf motifs outlined with gimp. Single woven tally filings n centers, rectangular picoted plaited brides.
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: One end looks cut, probably around the motifs, hard to see the other end.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.

Size: 28″ x 17.5″
Starting Price: 64.00 GBP Buy-it-Now
Auction ends: Dec 15, 2014, 3:32 PM, PST
Offered by: Ebay seller pbur3053, Selkirk, United Kingdom
Comments: I’m not exactly sure what to make of this piece.  The motifs look like black Blonde de Caen, but the net looks like machine tulle – it doesn’t look like embroidered net. I think that the motifs were cut from something else and appliqued onto machine net.  The net does seem to run behind some motifs, and one photo shows what looks like a separate picot edge attached.  Interesting, wish there were a photo of the entire piece laid flat.
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: Looks like an assembled piece.
Damage: Some frayed edges to the motifs, occasional small hole.
Soilage: Hard to tell with black lace – might be some rust here.
Finish: Fold creases.

Offered by: Ebay seller micu02, Montevideo, Uruguay
Comments: A collar of Duchesse de Bruges with some needlelace rings used as simple fillings. Good floral design with nice movement, especially the large leaf sprays. There is no photo of the entire thing laid out flat, but the front pieces are lappets with a slightly angled termination.
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: A few minor broken brides.
Soilage: Yellowish, a little soiling around back neckline.
Finish: Fold crease down center back.

Offered by: Ebay seller pbur3053, Selkirk, United Kingdom
Comments: This linen tape lace collar has an Eastern European or maybe even Russian look.  Sometimes you see things like this from Italy, but I think the design is a little less precise than the Northern or Central Italian patterns. Jard to place something like this exactly.
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Seller says it is freshly laundered and professionally pressed, but gives no details on the process.
Finish: Fold crease down center back.

http://tinyurl.com/oqatvmo ANTIQUE LACE STUNNING EARLY HANDMADE BRUSSELS LACE CAP BACK C 1750
Size: 11″ x 8.5″ not counting engrelure at the bottom.
Starting Price: $15.00
Auction ends: Dec 16, 2014, 1:20 PM, PST
Offered by: Ebay seller greatlace, Palm Beach, Florida, United States
Comments: A cap back of Flemish pieced bobbinlace with bride ground, exceptional design and technique. Symmetric pattern with delicate picoted brides. Two different kinds of fillings, one with some woven squares. I’d put it 3rd quarter 18th c, maybe a little earlier. Most authors attribute this kind of lace to Brussels, although the reasons aren’t entirely clear.  I’m seriously thinking of identifying laces more ‘in the style’ of rather than committing to a definite attribution.  Excellent lace was being made in the surrounding countryside, and the magnificent dress of Empress Maria Theresa was made in Ghent.
The added engrelure at the the bottom is a bit puzzling. Surviving complete ‘heads’ of cap back, lappets and frill usually show the lappets sewn directly to the cap back with the bottom edge free.
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: None. Engurelure added at bottom.
Damage: Seller cites a few broken brides at bottom right and center of flower at left center edge.
Soilage: Seller cites one tiny stain at the center.  Light cream color.
Finish: No creases or wrinkles.

221628033970   Sold for $1,232.00, 4 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/ox8kgr7 Antique 19thc. Bobbin Lace Capelet
Size: Not given.
Starting Price: $39.00
Auction ends: Dec 16, 2014, 7:00 PM, PST
Offered by: Ebay seller textiles2012, Hydes, Maryland, United States
Comments: Given the general symmetric design and the rather rounded motifs, the types of small flowers and motif scalloped edges, I’m thinking his little cape looks like Swiss Neuchâtel.  Motifs are done in cloth stitch rather than halfstitch, and this is one of the identifying characteristics of Swiss work.  Neuchâtel does tend to have a little more 6-pointed star fillings rather than strict honeycomb, but I do have examples in my own collection with both.  The clothwork is a little more loosely woven than my examples, but not much.
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: None.
Damage: Seller cites a few broken brides at bottom right and center of flower at left center edge.
Soilage: Seller cites two small spots, one on upper right shoulder, one on lower left lappet near the bottom.
Finish: A few very minor wrinkles.

251750701495   Sold for $208.50, 8 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/l49o426 Majestic Antique 19thc. Blonde Chantilly ? Lace Shawl or Yardage
Size: 34″ x 120″
Starting Price: $900.00
Auction ends: Dec 16, 2014, 7:00 PM, PST
Offered by: Ebay seller textiles2012, Hydes, Maryland, United States
Comments: Note the contrast between this piece and the little cape above. The design is more naturalistic. Although there is some half stitch shading, most of the work is in whole stitch, and I’m thinking this is a French Bayeux piece, which uses both. This type of lace is not well documented, but I have seen it in other very large pieces.
I’ve been trying to spot racroc lines, and I see somethings running vertically across the width, but there are no clear divisions in the design. And look at the 9th photo, there are several areas where the mesh is laid on top of the motifs (we are probably looking at the back). Which makes me think that there’s some working of the mesh around parts of the design like you see with early droschel.  But this is definitely a 2nd Empire design.  Could use more closeups of these areas.  It could be a hybrid piece, perhaps Belgian.
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: None. Seller says ends are finished, but there aren’t any photos of those areas.
Damage: Seller cites three tiny holes.  Slight fraying along the bottom edge in spots.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

Starting Price: $25.00
Auction ends: Dec 16, 2014, 7:00 PM, PST
Offered by: Ebay seller textiles2012, Hydes, Maryland, United States
Comments: This is a fragment of a high-end market Point de Gaze flounce. What is really interesting are the farming implements in the scallops at the lower edge.  No raised work and not much in the way of decorative fillings.  But the dense, elaborate design holds very well on its own.  Wish there were more.  The mesh looks extremely fine.
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: Cut both ends.
Damage: Some holes in the Point de Gaze mesh especially at the top.
Soilage: Seller cites “patina of age and a few negligible areas of slight oxidation”.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

Comments: A dress front of Honiton. Snails/slugs style, nicely arranged with well done large flowers around the outside, and smaller ones along the neckline. In-between is a slightly asymmetric floral arrangement.
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: None, but three small hooks down one side.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.

Comments: A wide, long crinoline flounce of Brussels bobbinlace applique on machine net. A few needlelace accents in some flowers. It’s not a very complex design; flowers in ovals with an undulating trail of leaves above. No esprits.
Provenance:  None cited.
Condition:
Modifications: Can’t see the ends to tell if they are cut.
Damage: A few small holes in the mesh at one end.
Soilage: Some small areas of brown spotting.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles – it seems to have been rolled on a bolt. The motifs look a little shrunken; usually a sign of washing. But this doesn’t really looked very used.

Comments: A crinoline flounce of Brussels bobbin and needlelace applique on machine net.  The needlelace seems used primarily in the strapwork, with some needle-made decorative ‘mode’ fillings. No esprits in the upper ground. The design is quite sophisticated, like swirling ribbons.  Unusual, and a nice change from the strictly romantic floral design.

Modifications: Can’t see the ends to tell if they are cut.
Damage: Three repair seams, minor. Seller cites a few tiny holes and one place that looks like a puncture.
