Auction ends: Jun 19, 2011 18:05:28 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller adtjmd, RED VELVET BENCH, United States
Comments: A pretty border of Brussels Application on machine net. Good qualitywork even though the design consists of two alternating motifs. A few spots, age discoloration, but I don’t see any damage in the photos.

   Sold for 176.50, 6 bidders.

Size: 5.5″ wide at back, 50 inches around neckline
Starting price: $9.99 with reserve
Auction ends: Jun 20, 2011 19:00:31 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller JAMIEXMAS*, Southbridge, Massachusetts, United States
Comments: A Duchesse de Bruxelles variation. Bobbinlace motifs are above average in design for this kind of lace, and have some raised work in the veining. Needlelace is limited to some reseau and ring fillings inside bobbinlace motifs. Nice, unusual piece. A little damage to some of the needlelace net, a few broken brides, but overall good condition.

Sold for $108.50, 7 bidders.

Offered by: Ebay seller JAMIEXMAS*, Southbridge, Massachusetts, United States
Comments: Nicely designed later 19th c Belgian needlelace collar. No raised work – it has more of a Zele feel with the closer clothwork. I see maybe two small holes (seller says there are 3), otherwise very good condition. Don’t know what the seller means by ‘fine silk net ground’. Looks like a very good cotton to me.

$75.00, 7 bidders, reserve not met.

Comments: Good narrow Irish Crochet collar. Nice dense raised work in some motifs, double layer outline in some flowers.  Looks in very good condition.

Size: 12″ around lower edge x 5.75″ wide
Starting price: 9.99 GBP
Auction ends: Jun 22, 2011 09:45:35 PDT
Offered by: Lynda Perkinl, Ebay seller discover4, London, United Kingdom
Comments: Duchesse de Bruxelles fan leaf. Good larged double raised petal roses in the needlelace. The bobbinlace doesn’t have any raised work, seems a bit on the Brugges sides. Fairly conventional design.  Very good condition, I don’t see any problems. Seller cites a few minor pulls.

   Sold for 78.85 GBP.

Offered by: Lynda Perkin, Ebay seller discover4, London, United Kingdom
Comments: I don’t like to gush in these postings, the sellers do enough of that just in their titles. But this Point de Gaze piece is really nice. Double layered rose petals, with some interesting windows in the toilé.  I like the fillings, nicely done with some innovation. Good grid of rosettes in the ‘D’ shaped motifs.  Flowers include poppies, and maybe bleeding hearts? Seller cites a few breaks in the net, and some repairs.  Note, seller washed the piece, but gives no details on how that was done. That information would be important in a piece like this.

Sold for 760.00 GBP, 10 bidders.

Size: 48″ x 19″
Starting price: $0.99
Auction ends: Jun 23, 2011 19:41:43 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller heartstrings, Gurley, AL, United States
Comments: Normally I’d pass something like this by, but I think it is really interesting. Damage is bad, and you can barely tell anything from the photos. But I’m guessing that it’s a Le Puy guipure. Designers like Jean Chaleye in the early 20th century would have come up with something like this, really pushing the technical boundaries. I love the spiderweb ground. These heavier black silk guipures are badly underappreciated.

   Sold for $26.00, 6 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/6kvvfov Attractive Antique Large Maltese Lace Shawl-60″ x 60″
Size: 60″ x 60″
Starting price: 9.99 GBP
Auction ends: Jun 24, 2011 12:00:19 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller baraud, Newton Abbot, United Kingdom
Comments: Maltese? shawl – unusual for the large square shape. The work is also a bit thin, which sometimes leads people to think this may be a French piece.  Someone needs to look into this. Seller says there is one long and a few smaller repairs, and a few small holes and broken brides.

Sold for 91.00 GBP, 8 bidders.

Size: 35″ x 3.1″
Starting price: $10.00 with reserve
Auction ends: Jun 25, 2011 15:00:46 PDT
Offered by: Anne Swift, Ebay seller eastayton, London. England, United Kingdom
Comments: Early plaited bobbinlace. This was in the “450 Years of Lace” exhibition at the Allhallows Museum in Devon. Ex coll. Jane Page.  It resembles the designs in the Nüw Modelbüch published in Zurich in 1561, but I can’t find an exact match. That’s what collectors of early laces like to do – find a match in an early pattern book. Hard to say where this was made, Italy is a good guess.  The very dense plaiting is typical of Italan insertions, and there was a substantial amount of finishing done to get it to look that way.  But you must beware, these patterns have been worked extensively through the years, and without a definitive provenance, it’s hard to date these things. It is a lovely piece, in very good condition.

   Sold for $460.77, 2 bidders.

Size: each 24″ x 4.75″ to 3.5″
Starting price: $10.00 with reserve
Auction ends: Jun 25, 2011 15:20:50 PDT
Offered by: Anne Swift, Ebay seller eastayton, London. England, United Kingdom
Comments: Great set of mid 18th century lappets. Dense pattern with good bobbinlace fillings. Vrai droschel surrounds all motifs, tied into the motifs – this is not an applique. The design  includes some small birds and butterflies.  I’m not sure why the seller calls these English – Belgian is certainly an option. They look in great condition, only very minor pulls in the ground. I’m thinking they might be cut a bit short – the ends are ragged but it’s hard to tell if anything is missing from the design.

   Sold for $976.77, 6 bidders.

Size: 14″ square
Starting price: $10.00 with reserve
Auction ends: Jun 25, 2011 15:35:42 PDT
Offered by: Anne Swift, Ebay seller eastayton, London. England, United Kingdom
Comments: Good Belgian pieced bobbinlace handkerchief – Given the raised work in the motifs I’d call it Duchesse. It’s hard to work something like this fine enough to make a good presentation for the form. No needlelace that I can see. Condition looks very good, I can’t see any problems.

   Sold for $137.50, 8 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/5rp5zsz ENGLISH BEDFORDSHIRE BOBBIN LACE WITH BEADS
Size: 140″ X 2″
Starting price: $10.00 with reserve
Auction ends: Jun 25, 2011 16:30:51 PDT
Offered by: Anne Swift, Ebay seller eastayton, London. England, United Kingdom
Comments: Beaded Beds borders come up for sale now and again, and frankly, I don’t know where they come from or how to date them. When you do see it discussed, it’s usually in connection with French laces.  So buyer beware on this one, it might be a very modern design. It does have a kind of Art Nouveau look, and I’d be interested if anyone has any information.

   Sold for $180.00, 4 bidders

http://tinyurl.com/5t2nuw5 MERAVIGLIOSO COLLO IN POINT DE GAZE

Starting price: 299.99 EUR Buy-it-Now
Auction ends: Jul 14, 2011 11:20:23 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller ELIAS*123, Boro, Italy
Comments: Good bertha of Point de Gaze. The more open roses have a very nice naturalism. The work is good, condition is great. The design isn’t too ambitious, but it’s a nice example of Belgian needlelace in this form.

   Did not sell. I think.

Auction ends: Jul 17, 2011 08:31:53 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller twist-in-time, Philadelphia / DFW, United States
Comments: These highly 3-D crochet works are often French. I like the combination of the simpler disk design material with the high relief on top. A few separations in the seams and some small breaks, but overall good condition.
