Size: 5″ deep, 17″ neck edge, 42″ outer edge
Starting price: 25.00 GBP
Auction ends: Jun 26, 2011 00:15:06 PDT
Offered by: Stephen Lunn, Ebay seller lunnantiques, London, United Kingdom
Comments: Good collar of Irish crochet. The horseshoe design with the small raised rings is quite an early design.  Normally you see it in borders, so the scalloped collar form is a bit unusual. Looks in very good condition, I couldn’t spot anything from the photos.

Sold for 25.00 GBP, 1 bidder.

Size: 35″ x 7″
Starting price: $29.99

Offered by: Maria Niforos, Ebay seller mithya, London-New York, United States
Comments: The term Brabant is confusing. It is now generally used to indicate a large motif rather coarse Belgian pieced bobbinlace of the mid 18th century (see figure 270 in Levey’s “Lace, A History”). The assumption is that these pieces originated outside the refined centers such as Brussels. Even though the actual province of Brabant (which has had its boundaries changed thoughout history) now contains the city of Brussels. We would like to discourage the use of the term and encourage more research as to exactly where these pieces came from.  They probably were made in this region, but it would be nice to try and get away from the ‘city vs poor country cousin’ attitude. This particular piece has a refined design, and has a lot of similarities to the Levey example.  It is a bit short, and condition is not the best – wear, a few small holes, and one seam.

   Sold for $102.50, 2 bidders.

Comments: Flemish pottery lacemaker, looks in very good condition. Unfortunately no closeup photos.  I think it’s by Pieter Jozef Laignel 1898-1929.  Size is quite large for this type of figure. See the LaceNews article at https://lacenews.net/2010/10/06/collecting-flemish-pottery-lacemakers/.

Size: total height 86 cm, I think…
Starting price: 1.00 EUR

Offered by: Ebay seller lillian1998, Boxberg, Deutschland
Comments: This stand is getting a lot of preliminary interest. Seller states it is from the German state of Thuringia. The stand has nice turned elements. It almost looks like the top part comes off and can be used as a shorter stand.  Not entirely clear, there aren’t enough detailed photos. As I translate it, the seller says the top is ‘moveable’ and the height is adjustable. Looks in very good condition.

Sold for 70.00 EUR, 9 bidders.

Size: total 50″ square, lace is 5.5″ deep.
Starting price: 19.99 GBP
Auction ends: Jun 26, 2011 12:21:49 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller linen-cupboard, Crawcrook, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom
Comments: I would call this lace a good quality Belgian pieced lace, more a Bruges technique. The motifs are quite large and suit the function very well. It is a straight length cut to fit the corners, but the join is nicely done.  Looks in very good condition. Seller says she has hand washed it.

Sold for 77.00 GBP, 5 bidders.

Size: 5.5″ wide, 39″ neckline, 82″ outside edge
Starting price: $49.99
Auction ends: Jun 26, 2011 18:22:58 PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller adtjmd, RED VELVET BENCH, United States
Comments: Bertha of mixed bobbin and needlelace. the bobbinlace is more a Bruges variation of Duchesse.  Design is pretty standard, condition looks very good – only minimal defects noted by seller.  I wish people wouldn’t photograph lace on red backgrounds, makes it very hard to tell the true color. This piece looks much whiter when shown on the manikin.

   Sold for $190.50, 7 bidders.
