Notes: This is an important lace sale. The catalog notes say that the offerings are from the collection of Mme. X, and a few others.  Laces run from lots 1 to 100. The lot numberings are a bit strange, there’s a collection of dolls with lot numbers less then 1 before the laces start. This sale will take place during the week of “Journées Marteau” which is a yearly celebration of French auction houses, see
The lace photos are awful (all the larger have been folded up and you can’t see any detail), condition notes are spotty, and the laces are amazing.  I especially like the laces in original Lefébure boxes, lots 56, 57, 62, and 64. I’ve never seen this before, and an attribution like this is extraordinary. I count 7 good Alençon lengths, 2 Valenciennes de Gand, about 10 old Flanders, and lots of Chantilly and Blonde (mostly can’t tell if they are machine or hand done).  After the laces come the fans, a number of which are lace. There’s an interesting white application on chantilly in lot 160.

Drouot is an organization of auction houses throughout France, including their main facility, the Hôtel Drouot in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. Established in 1852, Hôtel Drouot held a monopoly on French antiques auctions until legal reforms opened the way for international competition in 2000.  The Gazette Drouot lists upcoming auctions.
