This exhibition is in celebration of the 30th anniversary of l’Amicale des Dentellières du Locle. They will be demonstrating lacemaking on all Saturdays and Sundays from 14:00 to 17:00.
Le Locle is in the great lacemaking center of the Canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. Lace was exported from Le Locle as early as 1650. Around 1770 there were 726 lacemakers in Locle compared to 331 watchmakers. Around 1840 watchmaking activities superseded lacemaking, and the lace industry essentially died.
