Size:  7″ x 52″
Starting Price: $325.00 Buy-it-Now or Make Offer
Auction ends: Nov 17, 2013 18:00:36 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller wordlythings, Pepperell, Massachusetts, United States
Comments: A border of Duchesse de Brussels. Flat Point de Gaze inserts, with simple sprigs. A few needlelace fillings in flower centers. The bobbinlace is a typical product – I like the way they treat the lower edge, the top is a little scattered.
Condition:
Modifications:  Ends are terminated, but do not appear to have been cut. Or perhaps someone just carefully cut around the motifs, afterall this is a pieced lace.
Damage:  3 small holes in the Pt de G mesh, and a few broken brides.
Soilage:  Looks quite clean.

http://tinyurl.com/lugq8la Mint Antique Handmade Bedfordshire Lace French Monogram Tabletop Centerpiece Set
Size: centerpiece 36″ diameter, doilies 6″ diameter
Starting Price: $35.00 with reserve
Auction ends: Nov 18, 2013 12:53:50 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller chantillydreams, Mount Sinai, New York, United States
Comments: A guipure centerpiece with 6 doilies.  Given the French motif embroidery on the cloth centers, I’m going to call this a Cluny variation, French. You do see this kind of lace from time to time, recently very similar berthas have come up for sale.  See for example, the 14th item on the Ebay alerts of Sept 8, 2013 http://tinyurl.com/k2nmkve. The design is too compressed and regular, and the spider-like fillings are not typical of Beds.  It’s an impressive set.
Condition:
Modifications:  None.
Damage:  Nothing obvious in the photos or seller’s comments.
Soilage:  Looks quite clean.

310793231274   Sold for $35.00, 3 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/k2q58x7 Old! Antique Vintage Mechlin Bobbin Lace Edge Wide Net Trim Flowers Dots Dress
Size: 3.5″ x 1 yard 24″
Starting Price: $9.00
Auction ends: Nov 18, 2013 12:54:56 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller mixedupcolors, Mount Sinai, Shreveport, Louisiana, United States
Comments: A narrow border of Brussels bobbinlace applique on machine net. Light, simple motifs and small esprits in the ground. A few needlelace fillings, basically knots in flower centers.
Condition:
Modifications:  Cut on the one end I can see.
Damage:  Pinholes in the tulle.
Soilage:  Age stains throughout.

231093330001   Sold for $13.50, 3 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/mez9jku AUTHENTIC ANTIQUE TABLE BOBBIN WINDER 19th century BOBBIN LACE
Size: ~13″ x 31″ x 10″ high
Starting Price: $9.00
Auction ends: Nov 18, 2013 13:08:31 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller stampguy48, Huntsville, Texas, United States
Comments: A bobbin winder typical of the Le Puy area. Nicely carved wheel, and a metal key securing the bobbin. The windmill and cutoff bobbin holders are all there. You look for something complete in these items, and also the elegance of the piece. The arm holding the windmill seems to slide out from under the base – you can adjust the length.
Condition:
Modifications:  None
Damage:  Some little dents – might be worm holes.
Soilage:  Age related patina.

400605719905   No bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/lhk3b6m Lovely Antique Handmade Maltese Silk Lace collar.
Size: neckline ~14.5″, outside edge ~70″, lappets 14.25″ x 3.5″ each.
Starting Price: 14.99 GBP
Auction ends: Nov 19, 2013 09:37:28 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller isohex, Tyne-Wear,, United Kingdom
Comments: A deep Maltese collar with long front lappets. The lappets have flowers along the outer edge, this switches to larger crosses and flowers on the collar. All a matter of proportion, handled quite nicely.  Massed woven leaves in the center portions.
Condition:
Modifications:  None
Damage:  Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks quite clean. Slight wrinkling on the inside  edge of the lappets, but this is minor.

360789969044   Sold for 45.99 GBP, 5 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/jw75pok Antique Victorian French Black Big Chantilly Lace Collar/Yoke.Never used.
Size: not given.
Starting Price: 29.99 GBP
Auction ends: Nov 19, 2013 10:50:23 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller beldentel, London, London, United Kingdom
Comments: I’m reasonable sure this is handmade Chantilly, but would need more detailed closeups to absolutely verify. The shape is so unusual, as is the edge treatment. I’ guessing this is later piece.
Condition:
Modifications:  None
Damage:  Some small holes, especially near the edges.
Soilage: Hard to tell because of the color.

200985602443   Sold for 29.99 GBP, 1 bidder.

http://tinyurl.com/kdqdxxs Antique Brussels Applique MINT Band of Lace
Size: 3.5″ x 27″
Starting Price: $24.99
Auction ends: Nov 19, 2013 16:45:11 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller ogop, Lincoln, Massachusetts, United States
Comments: A narrow border of Brussels bobbinlace applique on machine tulle. Just a small piece, but the design is quite good. The motifs are  small and tightly worked, and note the unusual straight band just above the lower border. A few simple needlelace decorative fillings, and small circles form esprits in the ground.
Condition:
Modifications:  Cut and sewn into a circle. Actually I’m assuming that because I can’t see the join in the photos.
Damage:  Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks very clean.

251378748608   No bids.

http://tinyurl.com/k4roz43 Antique French Hand Painted Fan Putti Handmade Lace Carved MOP Fabulous Frame
Size: 22-3/4″ x 12.5″
Starting Price: $975.00 Buy-it-Now or Make Offer
Auction ends: Nov 20, 2013 07:54:10 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller prhea, Easton, Pennsylvania, United States
Comments: An interesting fan with a painted insert, the lace is Brussels bobbinlace application on machine net, quite finely done. The circular space for the painting looks original. Backed with a white or cream satin, which makes the lace a little hard to see.  Carved Mother of Pearl (abalone) sticks. Seller cites some butterflies in the lace, but I’m having a hard time finding them.
Condition:
Modifications:  None, framed.
Damage:  One damaged stick. Lace looks OK.
Soilage: Looks good, nicely protected by the frame.

400591793432   Unsold.

http://tinyurl.com/k3ww5zm ANTIQUE 1700’s HM EARLY 18THC FINEST & BEST HONITON LACE/ RARE
Size: 2.5″ x 36″
Starting Price: $950.00 Buy-it-Now or Make Offer
Auction ends: Nov 20, 2013 12:09:01 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller snakey03rr, Bourbon, Missouri, United States
Comments: This does look like an early 1700’s Devon border. It has the very dense patterning of contemporary Flemish pieces, but the motifs are a little more angular – sometimes you can see how the lacemaker worked continuously around curve, much like more modern Honiton roses. The overall design is also a bit unusual. At first it looks like it has a left-right symmetry around the large center motif, almost like a sleeve ruffle. But looking closer, it looks more like repeats in a border. The technique is excellent, although some of the details, such as the way the raised edges are handled, are a little off – look in the upper left corner of the first photo. You do see this often in the early Devon laces.
Condition:
Modifications:  Ends look cut.
Damage:  A few loose brides, not major.
Soilage: Looks very clean.

  1. Hi. Thank you for featuring my set in your post 😉 I am amused because I first acquired this on eBay some months ago, after reading your alert, and unless I am mistaken, I recall that you said something to the effect that you thought it was Beds, and that you felt Beds was was under appreciated. Is there any way to check back? Thanks 😉 Have a wonderful evening.

  2. Then again, you may have said the exact opposite, and it’s senility setting in on me LOL 😉

Hi! I’ll check this out – this is serious. Thanks so much for pointing it out. Laurie

Here’s the description I did for this piece when it appeared on the March 24, 3013 Ebay Alerts: I’ll label this as French Cluny (reinforced with the fleur de lis embroidery), which is a lace that I think doesn’t get enough respect. A well done example like this can have a lot of impact. This is a complete set in very good condition. Just a little staining that could be removed with an appropriately conservative cleaning. The seller did have it labeled as “Vtg Antique Lace Tablecloth Topper SEt w/ Doiles Hanmade Beds Bobbin Lace 7 pcs”.
