Size:  4″ x 47.5″, 9″ x 5 feet.
Starting Price: 45.00 GBP, 85.00 GBP
Auction ends: Nov 15, 2013 10:35:07 PST
Nov 15, 2013 10:55:49 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller amberfarleigh, Richmond, N. Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Comments: Two borders of Brussels Duchesse, which seem to be from the same set although one is much wider than the other. No raised work in the Point de Gaze inserts, which are contained in diamond-shaped frames. Note the little needlelace raised rings in the centers of flowers, almost like what they do in Rosaline. Rolled raised work in leaf veins, and raised elements on halfstitch ground in the diamonds.  These designs are a bit unusual.
Modifications:  Narrower one is cut on the one end that I can see in the photos. Can’t see the ends at all on the other piece.
Damage:  Narrower one: Seller cites a few broken brides and one small hole near engrelure. Occasional pinhole in the Point de Gaze mesh.  Wider one: Two small areas of broken brides, some pinholes in net.
Soilage:  Mostly white, a few small brown marks, but they that slightly shrunken washed look – a little worn.

190964543725   190964567650   No bids on either.

Size:  5″ x 39″
Starting Price: $49.99
Auction ends: Nov 15, 2013 12:06:55 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller greateridea209, Stockton, California, United States
Comments: A Point de Gaze bertha with raised petal roses. Each rose alternates with a set of decorative ‘modes’ along the outer border, and more modes are made beneath each rose. Motifs and design are conventional romantic products.
Modifications:  None
Damage:  A few small holes and pinholes in the mesh. Rather clumsy repair to the mesh along neckline, lower left center in the photo, and another less obvious one just down and to the right of that.
Soilage:  Looks clean from the photos.

http://tinyurl.com/pqgm9jf Antique Handmade Brussels Duchesse POINT DE GAZE Lace Flounce 11″W 4 Yds WEDDING
Size:  11″ x just over 4 yards
Starting Price: $95.00
Auction ends: Nov 15, 2013 19:11:03 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller winter-garden, West Palm Beach, Florida, United States
Comments: A fairly wide Brussels Duchesse flounce, some raised petal roses in the Point de Gaze Fillings. Note the triangular windows in some of the raised petals. Raised work also in the bobbinlace.  No decorative needlelace fillings that I can see. This is a typical Duchesse design, standard motifs, later 19th c. flounce.
Modifications:  Cut at both ends.
Damage:  Some tiny holes in two of the PtdG inserts.
Soilage:  Looks clean from the photos, seller has not found stains or discoloration.

http://tinyurl.com/kqtmsmh SO PRETTY Antique Net Lace Shawl Stole Veil Panel Applied Brussels Lace ~16×60″
Size:  ~16″ x 60″
Starting Price: $17.99
Auction ends: Nov 16, 2013 07:14:31 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller things*most*delightful, Sacrament0, California, United States
Comments: Brussels bobbinlace application on machine tulle. It’s pretty long to be a hat veil, but is finished at both ends. So I’ll call it a rectangular shawl.  Small bobbin motifs, well worked. I don’t see any needlelace decoration. The design just has a narrow border on one side, esprits in the ground, actually quite simple.
Modifications:  Cut at both ends.
Damage:  Seller cites 3 pinholes in the tulle.
Soilage:  Seller calls it creamy white – recently laundered.

http://tinyurl.com/n2fgc8o Brussels duchesse lace (bobbin with needlepoint insertions) shawl collar/ mantle
Size:  shoulder width 29″, center front down lappets 29″, back depth 10.25″
Starting Price: 29.99 GBP
Auction ends: Nov 16, 2013 08:46:41 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller 999dogtoby, Bath, United Kingdom
Comments: This is certainly the day for Brussels Duchesse. Here’s a deep shawl collar with long front lappets. Raised petal roses in the Pt de G inserts.  An unusual form, perhaps going with fashion around 1900.  Interesting.
Modifications:  None
Damage:  Looks very good from the photos, even the Point de Gaze mesh.
Soilage:  It does have a washed look, the needlelace motifs aren’t as crisp as they could be, and the raised parts of the bobbinlace don’t always lay flat.

291013659840   Sold for 112.00 GBP, 6 bidders.

Size:  14″ square
Starting Price: $9.99
Auction ends: Nov 17, 2013 10:30:12 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller funlinen, Peabody, Massachusetts, United States
Comments: A Maltese handkerchief, looks like two layers. Outside edge has wheat ears of woven leaves and a crown shaped motif (nice change from crosses and suns). The inner layer has some nice guipure in the form of elongated tears, against a wire ground. Crossed woven leaves next to the silk center. The design is a bit unusual and the work is well done.
Modifications:  None
Damage:  Looks very good from the photos.
Soilage:  Seller calls the color cream.

251376930505   Sold for $28.00, 3 bidders.

Size:  neckline 33″, back depth 3″.
Starting Price: 24.99 GBP
Auction ends: Nov 17, 2013 10:34:50 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller derbeatle, Cheltenham, United Kingdom
Comments: A narrow Honiton collar with long frontpieces.  Note the elaborate large leaves around the outside, like chestnut tree leaves – a bit overwhelming. Inside that is a rose ad thistle motif. Small loops line the neckline.  Rather on the snails/slugs side in style. This narrow form is a little unusual for Honiton.
Modifications:  None
Damage:  One small repair to neckline.
Soilage:  Neckline stained where you would expect from normal wear. Occasional small brown spot elsewhere.

231092117864   Sold for 36.99 GBP, 2 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/kqq5k6t Antique/vintage 19th century Chantilly lace shawl – Pat Earnshaw colletion.
Size:  19.5″ x 98″
Starting Price: 44.95 GBP
Auction ends: Nov 17, 2013 10:45:58 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller derbeatle, Cheltenham, United Kingdom
Comments: Ex. coll. Pat Earnshaw.  Illustrated in her work “Bobbin and Needle Laces, 1985.  I got out the book, a small portion is shown in Fig 77, described as white Chantilly. I would hesitate on that exact attribution. I don’t think this lace is silk, and we do know that around WWI silk was hard to come by so many workers switched to cotton. These laces were made a lot in Bayeux, and generally go by that name.  It is a beautifully done point ground rectangular shawl with an elaborate romantic design that fills the space almost entirely.
Modifications:  None
Damage:  One spot missing a filling, 3rd photo just above the right corner.  Studying the photos hard, can’t spot anything else.
Soilage:  Many scattered pale brown age marks.

331063104552   Sold for 920.00 GBP, 15 bidders.

Starting Price: 19.99 GBP
Auction ends: Nov 17, 2013 10:50:24 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller linen-cupboard, Crawcrook, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom
Comments: I’m thinking this is an Eastern European or maybe even Russian piece. Hard to tell, but the thread might be linen It is a tape lace with a plaited ground, but the design I think is a bit too free flowing for an Italian work.  Items of this quality don’t come up that often.
Modifications:  None
Damage:  No obvious damage
Soilage:  Seller says it is washed.  No marks that I can see from the photos.

190964561802   Sold for 102.00 GBP, 6 bidders.

Size:  2-3/4″ x 92.5″
Starting Price: $45.00 with reserve
Auction ends: Nov 17, 2013 10:50:24 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller mithya, Irvington, New York, United States.
Comments: 1730 – 1740, around there. Valenciennes border with 5-hole ground and snowflake partridge eye variation fillings.  Beautifully done, note the outlines of flowers against half stitch. Someone correct me on this, but you don’t really see that technique in modern laces anymore.  The repeat is rather short, just two main motifs. One of the very best laces.
Modifications:  I can’t see the ends to tell if they were cut.
Damage:  A little fraying on both long edges.  Occasional tiny worn spot in the clothwork, very minor.  Need more closeup photos to get a complete assessment.
Soilage:  Looks very clean.

Nov 17, 2013 11:36:17 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller barrioux, SERMENTIZON, Auvergne, France
Comments: This seller often lists equipment from the Auvergne area, including items very difficult to find. The lacemaker’s lamp is French, not the bobbinlace pattern which forms a case to store the focusing lamp. The oil lamp is a very typical accessory to the globe in France.
The little table I’ve never seen before, but the seller says similar items are in the Crozatier museum in Le Puy. It certainly is a possible lacemaker’s furniture item.  Seller also has a footstool listed.
Modifications:  None.
Damage:  Nothing obvious in the photos.  Table appears to have wormholes.
Soilage:  Good age patina on all.

Auction ends: Nov 18, 2013 10:58:014 PST
Offered by: Ebay seller isohex, Tyne-Wear,, United Kingdom
Comments: A long, narrow Maltese shawl with rounded ends. Bit too large for a lappet scarf, but basically the same idea.  It has the typical alternating flower and cross motif around the outside, inner part is a nice woven leave grid with large guipure crosses.
Modifications:  None
Damage:  Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage:  Looks quite clean.

    Dear Laurie,
About the “boule de veillée” (http://tinyurl.com/k6jkrbt Ancienne Boule de Veille de Dentellière XIXo et Lampe à Huile Dentelle du Puy BE
http://tinyurl.com/k9cw43k Rare Ancien Guéridon de Dentellière XIX° Art Populaire Dentelle aux Fuseaux Déco)
It’s absolutely typical from Le Puy area. The little box with the patterns, is also typical and these pink cartoons were often used (this bobbin lace pattern seems to be for torchon lace, and there are a lot in center of France like that), there are two other examples in retournac’s museum. I’ve never saw other example of a little religious medal sewn on the box (traditionaly, medals are on the lace pillow).
For the little table, it’s absolutely typical for the lace making. Yes there are in Le Puy museum, and also in Retournac museum we have five like that.
The seller is from Sermentizon, it’s not very far from Arlanc, in north from Le Puy. the old name of this little area is “Livradois”, and there was a lot of lace making here, totally linked with Le Puy.
Thanks for your messages always very interesting.
    All the best
