http://tinyurl.com/kefjjj4 An Absolutely Stunning Brussels Point De Gaze Victorian Jabot
Size: 13 cm x 44 cm
Starting Price: 32.00 GBP
Auction ends: May 24 2015 9:30 AM PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller winterwonderlandfairy, london, United Kingdom
Comments: A Brussels Duchesse triangular dress insert – rather large. Multi-layered raised petals in the large Point de Gaze insert. Raised work in the Duchesse also in ribbons work in half-stitch. Fairly conventional motifs in both bobbin and needlelace.  It does appear a bit large in scale.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None
Damage: Nothing obvious form the photos. PtdG mesh looks good.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish:  No obvious creases or wrinkles. It looks slightly soft to me, and the PtdG mesh is slightly irregular.  I wonder if this indicates some kind of wear.

http://tinyurl.com/mhhe4t7 An Enchanting Pair of Antique Brussels lace cuffs
Size: 6.5 x 26 cm each
Starting Price: 18.00 GBP
Auction ends: May 24 2015 9:55 AM PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller winterwonderlandfairy, london, United Kingdom
Comments: A late 19th or early 20th c pair of Point d’Angleterre cuffs – which is a Brussels bobbinlace with Point de Gaze ground. Interesting raised bobbinlace petals in the roses. A little raised work on half-stitch ground in the strapwork, along with rolled thread veins in leaves and petals.  Precise small buds along the border. For Point d’Angleterre this is a fairly simple pattern, without any needlelace decorative ‘mode’ fillings.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications:  None
Damage: Some localized small holes in the corner of one cuff in the ptdG mesh.  A little wear around the corner edges.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish:  Looks like some light fold creasing.

Comments: A border of white silk Maltese with a teardrop pattern and hearts between the drops – an often found design.  Maltese crosses in the drops surrounded by woven leaf crosses and small flowers. Woven leaf crosses used in a row at the foot edge.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: Can’t see the ends to tell if they are cut.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks clean.

Size:  various
Starting Price: 75.00 GBP
Auction ends: May 24 2015 10:28 AM PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller derbeatle, Cheltenham, United Kingdom
Comments: A collection of Bruges Bloemwerk collars, cuffs and triangular motifs, a small Rosaline collar, A Duchesse de Bruges collar with two triangular motifs. There are some triangular collar pieces and 2 cuffs that look like they might be Rococo – photos aren’t close enough to tell, but they might also be Cantu.  One Honiton spray, and some round and square plaited motifs.  A remarkable collection – nothing particularly special about the designs, but an excellent group of probably early 20th c techniques.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: Can’t see the ends to tell if they are cut.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Seller cites a fair amount of browning throughout.
Finish:  Fold creases in many.

Comments: A collection of 4 borders of various lengths. Three of them look like Bucks, the lats is a torchon, the but thread looks very might like the others.  Good delicate designs, quite a good collection. Bucks doesn’t some up all that often.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: Ends cut on one side on all, can’t see most of the other ends.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Look clean.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

http://tinyurl.com/mu4h7yt A Stunning Huge Antique Black Maltese Lace Shawl circa 1880

Starting Price: 72.00 GBP
Auction ends: May 24 2015 10:50 AM PDT
Offered by: Ebay seller winterwonderlandfairy, london, United Kingdom
Comments: A square Maltese black silk shawl. There isn’t a photo of the whole thing so it’s a bit hard to interpret the design in the corners.  It has a layered circular pattern radiating out of the center, and I think there’s a heart/teardrop design around the edges..  Excellent guipure work, closely woven.  The woven leaves are a little widely spaced giving it a lighter look.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: None.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Look clean but hard to tell with black lace.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

Comments: A square Chantilly shawl, Romantic floral design.  The overall design is quite light, no elaborate ombre or other effects.  Extensive honeycomb fillings.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: None.
Damage: Several repairs of various types and quality, and a few small holes in the mesh.  Edge torn in two places in the photos.
Soilage: Look clean but hard to tell with black lace.

Offered by: Ebay seller vane90, UK, United Kingdom
Comments: A bonnet veil of embroidered machine net – tambour embroidery with some needlerun fillings. Elegant design which resembles contemporary Blonde de Caen  with large floral sprays along the lower border. No esprits in the main ground.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: None. Gathering ribbon survives.
Damage: Looks like a few small holes near motifs along the side borders.
Soilage: Some brown spotting in the tulle.

http://tinyurl.com/lsg6pth 1.83m UNUSUAL EARLY ITALIAN/FLEMISH LINEN BOBBIN LACE WITH HERALDIC SHIELD
Size: 72″ x 3″
Starting Price: 85.00 GBP
Auction ends: May 24 2015 12:44 PM
Offered by: Ebay seller vane90, UK, United Kingdom
Comments: A border of Flemish or maybe Italian tape lace. I’m leaning toward Italian because of the slightly heavier work. Note the heraldic design in 4 quarters. It might be an early piece, it has the 6-sided plaited mesh that you see in late 17th early 18th c pieces.  The scalloped border might indicate a later date.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: Cut both ends.
Damage: Some fraying in the mesh and a few holes in the fillings.
Soilage: Some localized brown spotting.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

400919845613   Sold for 125.00 GBP, 3 bidders.

http://tinyurl.com/lmprxb4 LARGE PANEL EXQUISITE 17th CENTURY LINEN BOBBIN LACE, MILANESE/FLEMISH c1680
Size: 17″ x 72″
Starting Price: 225.00 GBP
Auction ends: May 24 2015 12:54 PM
Offered by: Ebay seller vane90, UK, United Kingdom
Comments: I think this is probably third quarter 17th c Milanese (see plate 200 in Leavey). It is a pieced lace with an occasional plaited bride attachment, but the lack of brides is a sign of an earlier piece in the style. Clothwork decoration is limited to holes placed along curves with occasional ribbon-like motifs. There are variations on snowflake fillings. The design, when you can find complete sections, appears symmetric around a central line.
Compare this with another piece recently come up for sale http://tinyurl.com/mmbhkzw.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: Made up of joined pieces. Top edge looks cut, parts of the bottom look intact.
Damage: A little fraying along edges and joins.
Soilage: Some age darkening.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.  Shiny linen age patina.

Size: 2.25″ x 37″
Starting Price: $19.99
Auction ends: May 24 2015 6:15 PM
Offered by: Ebay seller kouleegirl, Chagrin Falls, Ohio, United States
Comments: An insertion of Rosaline Perlée, unusual design. The fan-shaped elements appear to have some additional needle-made fillings. The perls are also needle-made, and also grouped in rings in some motif centers. A well-done elegant design.  I wonder if this was originally a narrow scarf – ends have been cut off.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: Cut both ends.
Damage: A little fraying at motif terminations.
Soilage: Looks clean
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

Comments: A border of Duchesse de Bruxelles. No raised work in the Point de Gaze inserts. The bobbin motifs have a Bruge aspect, with gimp borders.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: Can’t see the ends to tell if they are cut.
Damage: Some holes in the Point de Gaze mesh.
Soilage: Looks clean.

Offered by: Ebay seller namja_star, Tokyo, Japan
Comments: Two Point de France style (late 17th c) pieces from the same seller, so I’ll put them together.  The first piece looks intact design-wise, although there aren’t enough photos to really study it.  I think the second piece might be cut along the top edge – the engrelure is a later addition.  The raised work is quite elaborate, almost Point de Neige style in the first piece. Neither of the pieces have a definite candelabra design, so I’m wondering if they are Italian. But the picoted hexagonal meshes argue for France.
I note the seller is offering these by the yard.  I’m very much against cutting up pieces of this age and quality.  I’ve almost come to blows with sellers over this issue.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: Cut ends.  Bobbin engrelure added on 2nd piece.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

Starting Price: $600.00, Buy-it-Now $1,000.00
Auction ends: May 25 2015 6:46 AM
Offered by: Ebay seller namja_star, Tokyo, Japan
Comments: Another square black silk Maltese shawl. It has a similar concentric design in the center with guipure work in the edges. The heart/teardrop design along the edge is also similar. The photos won’t blow up, so it’s a bit hard to make detailed comments.  But he flowers in the corners are a bit unusual, and note the elaborate guipure work in the teardrop outlines along the edges.  The is a large amount of woven leaf mesh outside the central circular motifs.  An elaborate, well-made piece.
Provenance:  Seller says it was made in Gozo but does not offer documentation.
Modifications: None.
Damage: Not enough closeups to tell, but there does seem to be a seam or repair connecting the bottom circle to the border.
Soilage: Looks clean, but hard to tell with black lace.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

Comments: A reasonably wide, long Duchesse de Bruges border.  Good raised work against half-stitch ground.  Some single needle-made rings used as fillings.  Conventional motifs, nicely arranged in a romantic floral pattern.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: Tape added along the engrelure. Ends finished with some kind of tape, but they do appear cut.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.

Comments: A tambour embroidered machine net narrow scarf. Quite an effective floral spray at the ends, with a narrow scrolling border around all edges. Some small sprigs and dots used along the length of the piece.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: None.
Damage: Some pinholes and tiny holes in the tulle.  Occasional loose thread along the border.

Starting Price: 15.00 GBP
Auction ends: May 25 2015 1:38 PM
Offered by: Ebay seller billie2381, Wadebridge, Cornwall, United Kingdom
Comments: A Honiton fallcap, snails/slugs style. Tightly worked motifs, and I especially like the woven tally leadworks used as fillings around the petals of the roses on the outside edges. Brides are loosely plaited bobbin-made, no picots. Overall design is a bit thrown-together in the cap part, but the edge flowers hold everything together nicely.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: None.
Damage: a hole in the brides at one end, and a separation in the same end, but doesn’t look like anything is missing.
Soilage: Seller says it has been laundered but gives no details. Seller cites a faint mark on the last picture, I’m having trouble finding it.
Finish: No obvious creases or wrinkles.

Offered by: Ebay seller lacemerchant, Whiting, Indiana, United States
Comments: A silk (maybe) Irish crochet triangular dress insert with attached collar. Excellent floral motifs iwth nice decorative work along the raised edges. Typical Irish Crochet motifs arranged roughly in three-part pinwheel designs. Picots look like crocheted loops. The thread does have a silky sheen, but the tight work is a little unusual for silk IC.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: One join in the neckpiece.
Damage: One break in the border along the left side of the insert.
Soilage: Seller cites ecru color with a slight hint of peach.
Finish: No obvious creases, slight wrinkling.

Comments: A border if Duchesse de Bruges of excellent design. Note the little quatrefoils raised against the half-stitch scrollwork. There aren’t many motifs but they are nicely arranged and well worked – above the quality of much conventional Duchesse.
Provenance:  From an estate.
Modifications: One end cut, can’t see the other end.
Damage: Some breaks along the engrelure.

Offered by: Ebay seller lacemerchant, Whiting, Indiana, United States
Comments: A small handkerchief, almost too small. Nicely hemworked square with a guipure edge.  The ground is almost like Mechlin, but worked at a funny angle (reminds me a little of a Torchon ground).  Note the raised leaves on halfstitch in the corners.  This falls into my ‘unknown guipure’ category – my first guess would be Spain.  But that’s just a guess.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: None.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks clean.
Finish: Horizontal and vertical fold creases, and a little wrinkled.

Comments: An Irish crochet collar and matching cuffs.  Very dark in color, perhaps dyed? The motifs are small and interesting with a rather feathery edge technique. A little raised work, and note the trefoil picots. Interesting set.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: None.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.

Comments: A long border of black silk Le Puy guipure. Picoted 6-pointed star ground, which is one of the most common grounds for this type of lace.  Note the little diamonds against a point ground, another characteristic. Some good guipure work in the ground, and also note the rather thin woven tallies along the lower edge. A typical example.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: Can’t see the ends to tell if they are cut.
Damage: Nothing obvious from the photos.
Soilage: Looks clean, but hard to tell with black lace.

Size: 14″ x over 4 yards
Starting Price: $80.00
Auction ends: May 28 2015 11:28 AM
Offered by: Ebay seller atelier1900, Gaillard, France
Comments: A long, wide flounce of Chantilly. The design is rather simple, a straight ribbon along the lower border with periodic swags and a rose and leaves in the  upper ground. Scalloped border, sold points used as esprits.  Honeycomb stitch fillings, no ombré shading.  Hard to say if it’s French or Belgian – France tended to use a finer thread.  I can’t tell form the photos.  It looks like it is composed of 3 or 4 strips joined by racroc stitches.
Provenance:  None cited.
Modifications: Cut one end, can’t see the other end. Engrelure added.
Damage: A few pinholes and small holes, one racroc split. Another racroc split was repaired. Some detachment of the engrelure, and fraying of the upper edge. ONe hole beautifully repaired.
Soilage: Looks clean, but hard to tell with black lace.
Finish: Vertical and other fold creases.
