Comments: A bertha of Point de Milan.  This is a later 19th to 20th c Belgian lace with bobbin-made motifs, and a heavy twisted-return needle-made ground. Quality varies widely in this lace,and it is often used for table linens. This example has well-done motifs with some honeycomb fillings, also single woven tallies used in small filling areas. Seems to be a pomegranate design.  Good example of the type.

Comments: Three bobbinlace butterflies in different techniques. We often see Point de Gaze butterflies, but bobbin-made ones are a bit unusual as single pieces.  The first is Beds, the second appears to be a Cluny or perhaps Maltese, the third is Honiton.   I think the second is silk, but hard to tell from the photos.  However the general technique, particularly the raised leaves argue more for a French Cluny origin.  All three are well done technically with good design.

Damage: Honiton has a shifted tally in lower right wing, but I don’t think it’s broken. The other two appear intact.

Comments: A Maltese mantilla, typical diamond shape with lappet ends. The center roundel looks a little lighter color than the rest of the piece.  Good guipure work outside of the center and down the lappets.  The outside edge alternates between a flower motif and a mat of woven leaves.  I like the use of the wheat ear motifs in the center part.

The bobbinlace is well done with some raised work, and the overall design is fairly naturalistic.
