Comments: A cape made in two parts of muslin applique on machine net. Themotifs looks attached with tambour, which is a sign of Belgian work. Some of the motifs are embroidered with what might be French knots, and there’s some needlerun patterns used as fillings. The pieces appears to be made of three parts, a deep collar with two flounces. I’m not sure how the lower flounce is attached; the upper one is sewn to the lower edge of the collar. Excellent pattern matching of all pieces, with florals and leaves, small sprigs used as esprits in the ground.  Nice presence to this piece.

A higher end market piece with floral swags and a ribbon/bow design.  Closely spaced teardrop shapes in the border separated by a lattice grid filling. This piece doesn’t do as much with the decorative ‘mode’ fillings as the one above, but is no less effective. But both these pieces experiment a little with clothwork. The widely spaced looped picots on the bottom indicate the same manufacturer as the previous piece.
